What's New Here?

Israel said on Thursday it received a message from the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah that it was backing away from further violence, a day after the worst deadly clashes in years erupted along the border.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Israel had received a message from a UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon that Hezbollah was not interested in further escalation.

“Indeed, a message was received,” he said. “There are lines of coordination between us and Lebanon via UNIFIL (the UN force) and such a message was indeed received from Lebanon.”

In Beirut, Hezbollah officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

A trial began on January 27 to determine if former Houston City Attorney David Feldman had illegally invalidated thousands of signatures on a petition to hold a repeal referendum on the city’s anti-discrimination ordinance, which prohibits discrimination based on (among other things) “sexual orientation” or “gender identity.

”The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO — ordinance 2014-530) was passed by the Houston City Council on May 28, 2014 by an 11-6 vote.Houston Mayor Annise Parker, an openly declared lesbian who supported passage of the ordinance, was quoted as saying in a public discussion of the measure:

“This is about me.”After the ordinance was passed, Parker said that promoting its passage was “not the most important thing I have done or will do as mayor,”
but it certainly represented “the most personally satisfying, the most personally meaningful thing that I will do as mayor.”

Spain on Wednesday said Israeli fire had killed a Spanish UN peacekeeper serving in south Lebanon and called on the United Nations to fully investigate the violence.

The Security Council condemned the death of the Spanish corporal who died from wounds sustained during an exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters on the border.

“It is clear that this was because of the escalation of the violence and it came from the Israeli side,” Spanish Ambassador Roman Oyarzun told reporters, according to the AFP news agency.

The Spanish envoy said he had asked for a full investigation during an emergency meeting of the council called by France to discuss ways to defuse tensions between Israel and Lebanon.

The violence raised fears of another all-out conflict between the two countries, who fought a month-long war in 2006, in a region already wracked by fighting in Syria and Iraq.

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for “maximum calm and restraint,” urging all sides to “act responsibly to prevent any escalation in an already tense regional environment,” a UN statement said.

Coincidence or not, General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Adeboye had big and encouraging words to say about APC’s VP candidate, Prof. Osinbajo during a church service last year February.
Adeboye visited the RCCG Olive Tree parish in Lagos for the first time since Osinbajo became the head of the parish.

He said he hasn’t visited because he had taken his friend, Osinbajo for granted because of the trust he has in him to get things done.
You know usually with your friends, you take them for granted. You want to rush to where there might be trouble spots. But when you know that there’s no problem here, you tend to forget. But once in a while, you need to know that your friend needs fellowship.

Some of you might be thinking, maybe he didn’t come because he doesn’t like the new man. I didn’t come because I trust him, because he’s a wonderful child of God. Very wonderful child of God. Absolutely reliable. He’s one of the few Christians, one of the few sons I have that if you give him an assignment, you can go to sleep. By the time you wake up, it will be done.”

Vice President Namadi Sambo said on Thursday said that the Federal Government had approved N30 billion for the transmission of power from the Kashimbila dam and onward distribution to consumers in Taraba.
The vice president said this at the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Campaign Rally in Jalingo, Taraba.

According to Sambo, President Goodluck Jonathan will be in Taraba soon to inaugurate the multipurpose dam project expected to boost agriculture, water supply and energy across the state.

“Mr President has fully funded the Kashambila Dam. Kashimbila dam is a reality; this project is on the verge of completion and Mr President will come within the next few months to commission that project.

“I will to inform that Kashimbilla is a multi-purpose Dam project. It has a 10,000 irrigation scheme, it has an agricultural training institute, it has a 40-megawatt hydro-power plant.

“Mr President has just approved the sum of N30 billion to transmit and distribute the power to the good people of Taraba.

“Mr President, we are very grateful”.

Sambo also dismissed a pledge by the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari that he would revive the Mambilla hydro-power plant, saying that the plant was not an abandoned project.

He stated that President Jonathan had approved $1.5 billion for the construction of the 3,050megawatts Mambilla power plant.

“I want to seize this opportunity to make a (comment); I will start by not taking the advantage of the ignorance of the presidential candidate of APC, yesterday, when he said that he is going to revive the Mambilla

“That is not true. Karya ne (it’s a lie). Already, Mr President has approved the contract for the construction of the 3,050megawatts Mambilla power plant.

“And not only approval, he has provided the sum of $1.5 billion to begin the project.

“So, I’m sorry there’s no Mambilla to revive, already Mambilla is being developed and work is progressing”.

Sambo said Jonathan was transforming Taraba just as the PDP-led Federal Government had embarked on the dredging of the River Benue to enable ships and bigger boats to berth in Taraba.

“I have another good news; Mr President has approved the dredging of River Benue. Very soon you will see ships and boats coming to Jalingo.

“Mr President is transforming Taraba state, Mr President is transforming Nigeria.

“Nigeria! Sai Goodluck”.

He, therefore, called on the people of Taraba to reelect Jonathan to enable him to complete the good works he had begun nationwide.

He also charged them to vote for all PDP candidates in all the elections. (NAN)

The pilots of AirAsia Flight 8501 cut power to a critical computer system that normally prevents planes from going out of control shortly before it plunged into the Java Sea, two people with knowledge of the investigation said.
According to Bloomberg, the action appears to have helped trigger the events of Dec. 28, when the Airbus Group NV A320 climbed so abruptly that it lost lift and it began falling with warnings blaring in the cockpit, the people said. All 162 aboard were killed.

The pilots had been attempting to deal with alerts about the flight augmentation computers, which control the A320’s rudder and also automatically prevent it from going too slow. After initial attempts to address the alerts, the flight crew cut power to the entire system, which comprises two separate computers that back up each other, the people said.
While the information helps show how a normally functioning A320’s flight-protection system could have been bypassed, it doesn’t explain why the pilots pulled the plane into a steep climb, the people said. Even with the
computers shut off, the pilots should have been able to fly the plane manually, they said.

Airbus discourages pilots from cutting power to systems because electronics in the highly computerized aircraft are interconnected and turning off one component can affect others, John Cox, a former A320 pilot who is now a safety consultant, said in an interview.

The latest insight into what could have led to the AirAsia plane’s crash comes as it was revealed the co-pilot was actually at the controls of the doomed flight just before it plunged into the ocean.

Indonesia's lead investigator said the Airbus, which was less than halfway into a two-hour flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore when it disappeared, was being piloted by second-in-command Remi Plesel.

He was flying Flight QZ8501 prior to it crashing into the sea, not Captain Iriyanto - an experienced former military jet pilot

In a video released on Tuesday, the Islamic State group (ISIS) threatened to execute two hostages within 24 hours unless Jordan releases a female failed suicide bomber who has been on death row in the country since 2006. In case you don’tknow her, this is the woman. The Huffingon Post reports:

Tuesday’s video appeared to show Japanese reporter Kenji Goto, who has been held by the Islamic State group since the fall. The images were accompanied by audio in which a man who sounded like Goto said he had 24 hours to live unless Jordan released Sajida al-Rishawi. Goto added that the life of Muath al-Kasaesbeh, a Jordanian pilot who was captured by the extremists after his plane crashed in Syria in December, was also in imminent danger.

Al-Rishawi received the death penalty in Jordan in 2006 for her role in al Qaeda attacks on three luxury hotels in the Jordanian capital of Amman in November 2005. The bombings left more than 60 people dead and were some of the deadliest in Jordan’s history.

Al-Rishawi, originally from the Iraqi city of Ramadi, traveled to Jordan with her husband Ali Hussein al-Shumari in the fall of 2005. On Nov. 9, the couple walked into the ballroom of the Radisson SAS hotel, where a wedding was taking place, each wearing a suicide vest. Al-Shumari blew himself up in one corner of the room. Al-Rishawi’s vest didn’t explode.

An audio message purportedly from a Japanese journalist who is being held by the Islamic State militants said a Jordanian air force pilot who was also captured by the group would be killed unless a woman jailed in Jordan was released by sunset on Thursday. Reuters report:

The message appeared to postpone a previous deadline set on Tuesday in which the journalist, Kenji Goto, said he would be killed within 24 hours if the Iraqi would-be suicide bomber in prison in Jordan was not freed.

The latest audio recording, which could not be verified by Reuters, was posted on YouTube early on Thursday. Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a news conference that chances were high it was Goto’s voice in the recording.

“I am Kenji Goto. This is a voice message I’ve been told to send to you. If Sajida al-Rishawi is not ready for exchange for my life at the Turkish border by Thursday sunset 29th of January Mosul (Iraq) time, the Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kasaesbeh will be killed immediately,” the voice in the recording says.

Jordan said on Wednesday it had received no assurance that al-Kasaesbeh was safe and that it would go ahead with a proposed prisoner swap only if he was freed.

I know how it feels to be tensed and nervous when called for an interview! We don’t seem to know how to get a grip on our nerves thereby letting all that overshadow our brilliance and ability. Luckily, I have put together a few tips on how to get ready for that day and be in control.

1. DRESS THE PART

How you dress is key! Your prospective employer will definitely put that into consideration because first impressions matter and tell a lot about your personality. Ensure to dress more professionally when going for certain interviews even when you’re not sure of what is expected of you. Do not wear slippers, ill-fitting clothes, stained clothes, too much accessories, sandals, shirts with popped collars or provocative dresses to an interview. Instead go for a more polished look and update your wardrobe with black shoes, heels, dresses, jackets, ties, shirts and a black, blue or grey suit. Don’t also come to an interview chewing gum or drinking coffee, that’s a big turn off to an interviewer. Too much perfume or not enough deodorant won’t help either. Not being appropriately dressed or having weak looking shoes is also a point missed. Talking or texting on your cell phone or listening to an iPod while waiting to be called for the interview may be your final strike and you could be done with your candidacy before you even say a word. Before the day of your interview, put together all what you need and ensure they are clean and ironed.Dress the Part for an Interview1

2. IMPROVE YOURSELF

Apart from you looks, what really matters is your brains, experience and skills. So get yourself prepared and in the right spirits for an interview. Make efforts to prepare your interview technique including knowing what’s on your resume, being able to present why you are qualified for the job, why you are interested in the company, and practicing staying calm and focused. It’s important to remember that the image the interviewer has of you when he first meets you is the one that is going to last. Ensure you know exactly the names of companies you have worked for and special dates. Your verbal communications are important. Don’t use slang. Speak clearly and definitely. If you need to think about a response to an interview question, that’s fine. It’s better to think before you talk than to stumble over your words. Be attentive, calm and confident but do not show signs of over confidence. Speak when you are asked to.Improve yourself before an Interview

3. KNOW MORE ABOUT THE COMPANY

One big mistake you can make is to be invited by a company for an interview and no nothing about them or the job. So avoid such embarrassments by finding out all that you can about the company and the advertised position. Take some time in advance, to use the Internet to know as much as about the company as possible. Check their website, annual report, check their social media pages, LinkedIn. Spend time, as well, talking to employees who you know about what it entails and other things you need to know about the company. Finding out more about a company also enables you to have questions for the interviewer.

4. PRACTICE INTERVIEWING

Like they say “If you fail to plan then you plan to fail”. Before you go to a job interview, take the time to review the most common interview questions you will most likely be asked. Ensure you have answers to common questions like;

What’s your biggest weakness?
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Why do you want this job?
Why did you leave your last job?
What is your greatest strength?
How will your greatest strength help you perform?
How would you describe yourself?
Do you consider yourself successful? Why?
How do you view yourself?
Who do you compare yourself to?
How do you handle stress and pressure?
What motivates you?
What has been the greatest disappointment in your life?
Tell me about yourself.
Get familiar with these questions and come up with appropriate answers or search online if you’re not sure of what to say.Practice Interviewing

5. MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT

One way of showing confidence is maintaining eye contact and sitting upright. As you answer your questions look into the interviewer(s) eyes and speak loud and clearly. Make sure you aren’t speaking too slow or too fast and that your answers are stated with confidence. If your nerves are starting to fail you then just relax and take a deep breathe before you answer your next question.

Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang-led Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), yesterday slammed the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Soludo, over recent comments in his article titled Buhari vs Jonathan:

Beyond the Election, saying the ex-CBN boss was only seeking attention.

In a statement in Abuja by the Secretary and Administrator of the Forum, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, the governors noted that they were at loss as to the motive behind Soludo’s article because it was filled with half truths and falsehood, which showed it could not have been written in a sincere attempt to contribute to the national discuss.

“The NGF under the leadership of Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state has described as illusionary and attention seeking, the description of the economy by former CBN governor, Dr. Charles Soludo in a recent article he published.

“Dr. Soludo’s analysis flies in the face of all the conclusions and projections of renowned international economic bodies that the Nigerian economy was not only the largest in Africa, but was bound to continue its growth.

“The governors marvelled at why a former CBN governor will be against a state governor saving money for the rainy day as even the present shortfall in allocations vindicates such policies,” the statement read in part.

Over the past thirty years inequality has reached levels unseen since before World War II, with a recent report from Oxfam estimating that 48% of all the world's wealth is now owned by the richest 1% of the population. By 2016 that figure is set to exceed 50%.

As global inequality has increased, so has inequality in the United States and the rest of the Western world. Much of this has been attributed to changes in economic policy made in the 1980s, when Congress and the Reagan administration significantly lowered taxes on the wealthiest Americans in order to increase their incomes and thus the amount of money available for investment in businesses and the wider economy.

The essence of the 'trickle down' theory is that as taxes are lowered and investment increases, the economy as a whole will grow more quickly and lead to higher incomes for everyone. The 1980s and 1990s did see sustained economic growth, but for many ordinary Americans wages stagnated and the effects of the 2008 financial crisis wiped out what gains average workers had seen in the 80s and 90s.

YouGov's latest research shows that Americans tend to be skeptical of the idea that lower taxes on the wealthy stimulates the economy, with the end result of greater wealth for everyone. 45% of Americans say that they disagree with the idea, while 29% say that they agree with it. Most Democrats (62%) disagree, while most Republicans (50%) agree with the theory. Independents tend to disagree (42%) rather than agree (28%) with the idea.

Attitudes in the United Kingdom are broadly similar. Only 24% of Britons agree with the theory, while 51% disagree. The partisan split is also very similar, as right-wing Conservative voters tend to agree (45%) while most left-wing Labour voters disagree (63%).

One of the major critiques of growing inequality, beyond the human cost of poverty, is that vast inequality undermines the stability of the economic and even political system. Overall, 36% of Americans think that inequality is pushing the world's economic system to an imminent crisis, while 27% think that a crisis is foreseeable but not imminent. 16% think that the world economic system can sustain growing inequality, while 21% don't know.

Most Democrats (52%) believe that we are at the point of imminent crisis of inequality, something 34% of independents and only 22% of Republicans agree with. Republicans are evenly divided between the 32% who believe that inequality poses a distant threat to the world economic system, and the 32% who say that it does not pose a threat.

Americans tend to disagree with the theory that lower taxes on the wealthy will eventually benefit everyone

10 Jan 2015 - THIS REPUBLIC - Shaka Momodu - shaka.momodu@thisdaylive.com, 08112661654

Thirty years ago, he faced the cruel and ignominious fate of being tied to the stake and a hail of bullets from marksmen ended his precious life. That person was Bartholomew Owoh (26) who alongside others, Bernard Ogedengbe (29) and Lawal Ojuolape (30), were executed by firing squad after being arrested and tried for drug trafficking. The case of Bartholomew Owoh, the youngest of them all, was particularly tragic. At the time of his arrest, the crime did not carry capital forfeiture -the punishment was six months imprisonment. But Decree No. 20 was hurriedly promulgated and back-dated by one whole year to take effect from when he and others committed the crime and on the basis of that they were all tried, found guilty and executed by firing squad. Someone recently asked me if this actually happened and I said, “read the records of history against Buhari’s name”.
The man responsible for that “judicial murder and crime against humanity” is today the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, who has shown no remorse, no regret and has tendered no apology for his actions. Furthermore, he has sought no remission or restitution for that act of pure evil. He is the same man being daily burnished in the media by revisionists as the new face of “change.”

I sometimes wonder how he has been able to sleep, eat and wake up every morning for the past 30 years knowing that his hands are stained with the blood of these young men.
Before the promulgation of Decree 20, drug offences were bailable and it is instructive that Bartholomew Owoh was even on bail when it was promulgated. My personal investigation reveals that immediately the decree was promulgated, the young man expressed his desire to escape from the country. But his father prevailed on him to stay back, promising that he would protect him from the grave injustice. The young Owoh heeded his father’s advice and stayed. But his father clearly underestimated the deadly resolve of General Buhari to implement the new decree against his son and others. I can imagine the horror the poor father must have felt on hearing that soldiers had marched his son to the Bar Beach firing range to be executed.

I can imagine the last few moments of Bartholomew’s earthly life as he watched soldiers march around in a choreographic and synchronised parade to carry out the orders of General Buhari. What was going on in his mind? Did he have the moment to say goodbye to his family? Definitely no. He must have been too shocked by what was about to happen. What were the last word(s) he heard on this earth before the hail of bullets hit and silenced him forever? Have any of Buhari’s supporters bothered to ask or imagine? Have any of them put himself on the receiving end of such grave injustice? I guess the last word Owoh heard was: “fire”! And the last sound? The crack of gun shots as hot lead pierced through his body ripping him apart. He probably twitched for a few seconds and his precious life ended just like that. Where and how were he and others buried? In an unmarked grave perhaps! Expectedly, their families were denied the privilege of paying last respect to their loved ones.

If Bartholomew Owoh, the youngest of the three were still alive today, he would have been (56) - about the same age as Buhari’s running-mate, Yemi Osinbajo. He would have been married with children; somebody would have called him father; somebody would have called him uncle. But he died in his prime, as his life was brutally cut short by no less a brutal regime with the red hand of murder. What is a life worth to those who casually say Buhari has changed when the evidence points to the contrary? What is the value for human life to the revisionists and those uninformed bloggers who spread fantasies of Buhari’s daughter who is alleged married to an Ibo Christian man all in a bid to sell him?
I can imagine the eternal guilt Owoh’s father must have felt and probably still feels, that’s if he is still alive for prevailing on his son not to escape.
The irony here is that Bartholomew Owoh and his co- travellers were no saints; just as Buhari who ordered their execution is no saint. But the difference is that while the supporters of Buhari tell us that he has changed and are willing to forgive and give him a second chance, the same Buhari never gave Bartholomew and his co-travellers the opportunity for a second chance - to change and be good citizens of the society. Each time my mind drifts to this monumental injustice, I still freeze in shock and a cold chill runs through my body. How could this have happened in our country? But I am a witness to this part of our history.
I doubt if many Sai Buhari! crusaders feel the same way. But I know for sure that they won’t be so supportive of Buhari if their relatives were among the three Nigerians executed by a back-dated law. Can anyone of his supporters out there stand up and be counted on this score? Needless to say that many of them were too young to appreciate the gravity of the injustice while many others were not even born then. So, they can be excused for not being witnesses of records but they can’t be excused for refusing to use the lessons of history as guides to the future.

The frenzied campaign to dress Buhari in borrowed robes and foist him on Nigerians must be interrogated without let. Buahari’s critics must never allow themselves to be intimidated into silence by those who attack them for daring to interrogate the past, present and acts recorded against the general. Moreso, as the Sai Buharis have the right to air their opinion and support for the general without molestation. It is the fairest minimum for a healthy debate.
It is in this regard that I take exception to Buhari’s supporters who would rather re-write history and shout critics down for daring to air contrary views from the make-belief narrative being used to dupe a new generation of Nigerians, especially bloggers, facebook and twitter savvy youths. Whatever the case, facts remain sacred, comments are free but the records of history endure.

One of the often forgotten victims of Buhari’s high-handedness is Busari Adelakun. Does that name ring a bell? If it doesn’t, let me introduce him to you. Busari Adelakun was a grassroots mobiliser like no other. He was so instrumental to the emergence of the late Chief Bola Ige as the governor of old Oyo State in 1979 that he was appointed Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs despite his low academic qualifications. But Adelakun was to fall-out with his boss, Ige, and pitched tent with his estranged Deputy, the late Chief S.M Afolabi. Alongside other former Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) stalwarts, Adelakun moved to the rival National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and worked for its candidate, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, in the August 13, 1983 governorship election which he won. Olunloyo was sworn-in on October 1, 1983 and three months later, December 31, 1983, a group of soldiers led by Buhari, overthrew the democratic government.
One of those arrested by the new junta was Adelakun. He was herded into jail alongside other politicians. While Adelakun was not put on trial, he was nonetheless kept in jail despite his poor health, he was an ulcer patient who needed regular treatment and a special diet.

But he was denied proper treatment and food; leading Adelakun to suffer in prison until he died. Even after his death, the military junta would not release the corpse to his family. He was yet another Second Republic politician who met his untimely death as a result of the in-human conditions he was subjected to in Buhari’s detention camps.
The same man is now being canonised by a cabal of primitive wealth accumulators, money changers and flawed progressives whose motivation is anything but altruistic.

APC, Buhari, Change and Corruption
For God sake! How can a man who, according to Professor Wole Soyinka, “Built a career out of human rights abuses” suddenly become the change agent for the New Nigeria?
He has become the man who will cure Nigeria of all afflictions such as corruption, insecurity, etc. The only message coming out from Buhari is: “I will fight corruption and insecurity,” but he has been short on details on how he plans to achieve these twin objectives. He is yet to give Nigerians an economic blue-print, five weeks to the presidential election. In the face of dwindling revenue, General Buhari is yet to articulate an innovative, and creative road map on how to move the economy forward.

It is not enough for Buhari and his party to tell us that he will fight corruption without telling us how. Of course, that is the easiest claim any politician can make but the statement cannot be taken as a commitment. It is all talk, and talk is cheap if it is not backed by an action plan which is currently missing.
For the life of me, why should the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun brand every Nigerian who opposes Buhari’s presidential ambition as corrupt? Is that not a gratuitous insult? Is this not a typical example of an elder behaving badly? Why are these people so self-righteous when we see how corrupt they are too?
My worst fears were confirmed after reading news reports credited to the APC chairman recently that Buhari will not probe past corrupt acts because he wants to draw a line in the sand and move on. I chuckled and then laughed. If this is Buhari’s position, how then will he fight corruption, when even before the election, he has given a blanket amnesty to those accused of being corrupt? Can anyone spot the contradiction in the public message of “change” and the utterances of the APC leadership? In one breath, they accuse anyone who is opposed to Buhari’s ambition as corrupt- and in another breath, Chairman Oyegun stated that Buhari won’t probe past corrupt acts. Hear him: “The only people I can think of, who will fear the Buhari presidency are those who do not want change; they are those who want to continue with business as usual; they are those who want to continue to profit from the level of corruption in the society.

“The message will be clear – whatever you engaged in before that was detrimental to the people of this country, please stop it. There will be a line drawn in the sand; on one the part is the past, the other side is the future.” How will this deter people from corrupt acts if- past crimes carry no weight of punishment?
If the signals from Odigie-Oyegun are anything to go by, then the clamour for change by the APC may end up just giving Nigerians more of the same or just selling a bad apple disguised as an orange.

Now hear Buhari in Port Harcourt where he went to launch his campaign: “I will send corrupt people to Kirikiri.” Really? (Probably without trial). That would have made sense if the PTF probe report wasn’t so damning.

But unfortunately, Buhari’s Spartan incorruptible and austere credentials being trumpeted by Oyegun and his supporters have been ripped apart with his indictment in the management of the Petroleum Support Trust Fund, PTF. Based on the probe report conducted in 1999-2000, the PTF under Buhari’s supervision was mismanaged. The report was however neither made public nor was it acted upon by former President Obasanjo.

In its summary, the committee had advised Obasanjo to “set up a high powered judicial panel to recover huge public funds allocated to the PTF and to take necessary action against any officer, consultant or contractor whose negligence resulted in this colossal loss of public funds.”

According to the report, the sum of N25,758,532,448 was mismanaged by the Afri-Project Consortium (APC), a company contracted by the PTF as management and project consultants. Buhari as PTF chairman was said to have also “delegated to them the power of engineers in all appropriate projects requiring such power-” which made them assume absolute powers to initiate, approve and execute all projects by the PTF.

The mismanagement that took place in the PTF under Buhari’s watch was said to have been carried out by APC (the company) in their capacity as management and project consultants. Both their management services fees and budgets for several projects carried out during the existence of the PTF were greatly overpriced.
The question now is who will send Buhari to Kirikiri for the mismanagement, corruption and huge financial losses suffered by the taxpayers when he was chairman of PTF?

With his indictment for mismanagement by a committee instituted in 1999 by Obasanjo, Buhari’s ability to manage the Nigerian economy and fight corruption has being called to question. Will he lead by example by voluntarily surrendering himself at Kirikiri Prisons. Imagine the effects of such an action on many corrupt people who currently walk the streets free.

“The ladies sometimes say because I work in the mortuary, I will kill them if they accept my proposal. I have not done it once but many many times. Currently I don’t have a wife and since I was born, I haven’t had s*x with a fine girl,” Lucas told Adom TV.

Sharkur Lucas said he does not see anything wrong with sleeping with female corpses.

“Working with dead bodies is a talent that God gave me .I’m with the dead bodies every time, everyday and it is as if I’m with another person,” the morgue attendant said.

May & Baker Nigeria Plc was founded on September 4, 1944 as Nigeria’s first pharmaceutical company.

The National Campaign Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, has said only the ruling party can guarantee Nigeria’s unity and advancement.

He also declared the party’s candidate in the February 14 presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan, as the best among the lots seeking to occupy the highest political office in the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mr. Anenih, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, BoT, said in the run-up to the presidential poll, some Nigerians at home and abroad were already questioning the ability of the country to conduct the election without further exposing her existing fault lines and plunging the country into violence and chaos.

Acknowledging that these concerns were not without foundation, Anenih said he had no reservation whatsoever in assuring Nigerians that, whatever the odds may be, Nigeria would keep moving forward in unity.

“As the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, I am unwavering in my belief that the unity and advancement of our country is better protected by the PDP than by any other party”, Mr. Anenih said.

“In the past four presidential elections, many of you, my fellow compatriots, agreed with me and voted our party to victory. For this privilege you’ve repeatedly given our party to steer the ship of state since our nation’s return to democracy in 1999, I thank you once more. I am also calling on you, fellow compatriots from the North, South, East and West, to once again vote the PDP in 2015”.

The PDP BoT chairman stated that it was a matter of verifiable fact that the PDP, besides faithfully discharging its foremost duty to Nigeria of sustaining a stable, functional state, had recorded many achievements in agriculture, aviation, education, roads, railways, Industrialisation, women and youth empowerment and many other areas.

Mr. Anenih, however, agreed that much still needed to be done to consolidate on what the PDP-led federal administration had already begun.

He stated, “Indeed, it is precisely because we need to build more on what we’ve already done that we seek the support and mandate of Nigerians from the North, South, East and West to once again vote President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for a second term in office and the PDP in order to keep moving Nigeria forward in unity”.

Anenih noted that in the heat of the ongoing campaign, it was easy for significant accomplishments recorded by the Jonathan-led PDP government to go unremarked.

He also noted that very few speak about the revolution in Almajiri Education in the North brought about by the president, which had so far seen the completion and commencement of more than 150 purpose-built schools integrating Almajiris into the regular education scheme while many more of these schools were under construction.

Additionally, the PDP campaign adviser said fewer people speak about how the present administration had completed the dredging of the lower River Niger from Baro in Niger State to Warri in Delta State.

According to him, over 6.7 million passengers and over 1.6 million tonnes of cargo had been moved through this channel in less than three years, proving that Nigerians from the North and South were travelling and trading with one another and should stand together to ensure that was kept moving forward in unity.

He also reminded Nigerians that the PDP had successfully carried out a strategic restructuring of what was largely a state-run economy to a free-market economy, thereby engendering greater human development, free enterprise and irreversible economic expansion.

“These policies have created new jobs and empowered Nigerians from the North, South, East and West, thereby fostering more inclusive economic growth, especially in Agriculture and the Small and Medium Enterprises sector through programmes such as SURE-P and YouWin”, he said.

“It is a universally-acknowledged principle that inclusive economic growth for the populace is the best guarantee that we have not only for our political and democratic stability, but also in ensuring that Nigeria keeps moving forward in unity”.

Mr. Anenih said with the support of Nigerians and a renewed mandate at the polls, “President Jonathan, who is the best candidate in the forthcoming presidential election and the PDP, shall redouble their efforts to stem the evil tide of terrorism and insurgency, fast track greater access to qualitative education across the country, pursue an even more aggressive infrastructure development programme, while still safeguarding the democratic ideals of free speech and liberty which we all enjoy today”.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to turn out en-masse to vote the PDP presidential candidate “irrespective of tribe, religion, region, or political affiliation, to eschew all forms of mudslinging, disorder, and violence.

“Let us prove the naysayers wrong. Let us show the world that as Nigerians, regardless of our differences, we are determined that Nigeria must keep moving forward in unity!”

Indications emerged on Tuesday that insurgents might have gained full control of Monguno town in Borno State.

This position was given credence by fleeing residents, who claimed that there is no military presence in the town, which fell into the hands of Boko Haram on Sunday following a fierce battle with troops.

Abdullahi Jibril, who fled to Maiduguri through Gajiganna, also told journalists that residents of Gajiganna a town along the Baga/ Monguno, road are also on the run for fear of an impending attack by insurgents.

“As I am talking to you now, there is no single soldier in Monguno. Anybody that is saying that there are soldiers fighting in Monguno is lying. The Boko Haram members have put their flags in the hospital, police station and the military Barrack. They are preaching in the place right now.

“I was lucky to escape after I moved my father and my mother to Gajiganna. They killed the Imam Bachila of Bakasi area. They also caught the chief Imam of Monguno town, Liman Modu, who is the most respected man in the town”, Jibril said.
