The Lord's Chosen has been divinely endowed to awaken the conscience of human race towards the realization of this vital grace of God, which enables us to make heaven at last. John 14:1-3 says, Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. Matthew 6:33 said, But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Mark 16:15 says; "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." This first vision is in fulfillment of the Lord's commandment to the apostles to go into the world and preach the gospel. 1 Corinthians  4:20, FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS NOT IN WORD, BUT IN POWER
Hence, inexplicable but true and startling miracles are witnessed everyday in our fellowship. Both curable and incurable disases such as, HIV, Cancer, Diabetes, Blindness, Madness,
Bedwetting, Deaf and dumb, Stroke, Paralysis, Hernia, etc,
have been cured and testimonies abound from the mouths of those who have been liberated from demonic bondages.

Just imagine the fall!

If getting hit on the head means that I’d get to be a kickass musician for the rest of my life, I think I would seriously consider it. It sounds impossible, but something of the sort happened to 41-year-old Derek Amato. He really didn’t have a choice about it, though.
Derek had no idea his life was about to change forever when he dove into the shallow end of a pool to catch a football at a party. He hit his head and had a concussion, resulting in Acquired Savant Syndrome – a rare condition where people display profound abilities (called savant skills) after suffering head trauma, abilities that they didn’t have at birth. In Derek’s case, the acquired ability is music.
Derek is one of only 30 people in the world with this rare condition and the only one to have acquired music as a savant skill. Before the fall, he just dabbled in guitar and had no idea how to read or write music. And now he can play eight different instruments with the ease of a professional musician. Watching him play on video, it’s pretty hard to believe this man has had no formal training in music at all.
Derek vividly remembers the accident that changed his life in October 2006: “I remember the panic set in that I knew I hurt myself. I knew it was something bad. As I dove into the swimming pool, I remember coming up out of the water complaining that my ears were bleeding.”
“As I looked at my friends for explanation, I recall their lips moving but without sound. As I touched my ears to check for bleeding, I realized there was no blood, and I couldn’t hear anything at all.”
Derek suffered a serious concussion and permanent 35 percent hearing loss. He still experiences frequent headaches and memory loss. But Derek feels that this is a small price to pay for the blessing he has received. He wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s understandable, because Derek was struggling with a string of odd-jobs and being homeless, not really knowing what he wanted to do with his life. Now, he is a full-time musician with two albums under his belt.
It was at his best friend’s home, shortly after his fall, that Derek had discovered his new gift. When he looked at the keyboard, he says he was simply drawn to it and that he knew exactly what he had to do. “It was one of those moments when you just know. It was no ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’, it was a fully structured piece,” he said.
Derek still cannot read music, although he hears music in his head 24 hours a day. He sees black and white squares in his mind that instruct him on exactly how his fingers need to move. “That’s my notation,” he says. “How I see music in my mind is – I’ve always kind of explained it as black and white blocks that move left to right in a wave pattern. The imagery of these blocks push me to play. It almost insists I play.”
I think it’s fascinating how Derek’s brain approaches music. It’s very different from how music is traditionally taught. He just looks at the instrument and seems to intuitively know how to play it. A neurologist at the Mayo clinic who examined Derek says it’s possible he might have Synesthesia – the combining of two separate sensory processes. So people with Synesthesia will talk about tasting colors, seeing sounds, and that’s what Derek talks about. Derek can actually see music and feel it in his hands.
Unfortunately, it’s possible that Derek might lose his acquired savant skill as quickly as it came. He has no control over it, and neither do doctors. Derek says he would be devastated if that happened, because he’s really enjoying his unexpected gift. I do hope he gets better and gets to keep his gift as well.

Delta Gov. Uduaghan Sends Board Members Names To Legislators Months After Swearing Them In… mounts Pressure On Them To Confirm All Including A Dead Man- Fejiro Oliver

Members of the Delta State House of Assembly were on Tuesday thrown into a state of astonishment when they discovered that one of the seven persons nominated by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for appointment into the Delta State Tourism Board had died a while ago.

Last week, Mr. Uduaghan had included the name of James Youmu in a list of nominees for the state’s tourism board that was forwarded to the legislature for screening and confirmation. Mr. Youmu has been dead

The other nominees for the same board are Efe Afe, Peter Okolotu, Hyacinth Iyere, Amah Agbajoh, Abel Eyube and Joe Morg.

There was a mild drama during the screening when Mr. Youmu, the fourth nominee on the list, was called up. Mr. Afe, a former member of the state assembly who was screened as the chairman of the board, immediately told the House that the said James Youmu had died even before the names were sent for screening.

Onlookers were shocked when a man, who was said to be dead, suddenly got up and grabbed a bottle of water.
The soft drink vendor in China faked his own death in order to sue the government after an altercation with government employees.
But his cover was blown when he became too hot in the Hubei Province, in central China. The heat was too much for him to bear.
The incident occurred around 4:00 pm, when more than 10 men held the “corpse” on a gurney covered with a white sheet near the Jianghan Road subway station in the provincial capital of Wuhan.
The men protested and claimed that the government workers had beaten the vendor to death and they demanded tens of thousands of yuan in compensation.

More than 300 people gathered at the scene, and 80 police officers were sent to the scene to maintain order.
After two hours of protest, the “dead” man suddenly stood up, grabbed a bottle of water and drank it before saying: “It’s too hot. I cannot take it anymore.”
According to Human Rights Watch, many Chinese cities employ non-criminal law enforcement personnel called chengguan who work independently from police. Their job is to monitor citizens compliance with sanitation, traffic, and environmental laws.
The group is not very popular with the Chinese public after a series of high-profile violent incidents involving chengguan members. In the latest incident, six chengguan members were detained after a fruit seller in Hunan died after the group hit him on the head amid an altercation.
The “dead” man, whose surname is Han, along with two others have, been arrested for disorderly conduct. After being detained, Han told police that chengguan members clashed with vendors early in the day after claiming that their carts were blocking traffic. They told the vendors to leave before confiscating their mineral waters and other beverages.

Here are the seven most likely reasons your period might be late besides pregnancy …
Change In Your Regular Routine: Did you start a new job? Change your wakeup time? Go on vacation? It can take your body a little time to adjust to a change in your regular routine and that can impact your regular cycle, especially if the change started at the time you would normally ovulate, causing a delay or even a skipped cycle. 2. Stress: Your emotions, particularly stress, can have a major impact on the regularity of your menstrual cycle. And if you’re stressing about why your period is late, that could actually delay its arrival even more. Mother Nature is a cruel mistress!
3. Illness: Being sick at the time you normally would ovulate can delay ovulation — and if you ovulate late, you’ll get your period late. So if your period hasn’t arrived on schedule, think back a few weeks — were you under the weather?
4. Pill Poppin’: Taking a new medication or changing the dosage on an existing medication can affect all aspects of your body’s well-being, including your menstrual cycle — that’s why your doctor, including your gynecologist, always wants to know each and every medication that you’re on.
5. Weight Issues: A major change in your weight — either by gaining a lot or losing a lot of weight — can throw your ovulation cycle off. People who are underweight or extremely overweight sometimes don’t have a period at all — which is not very healthy. Overall, an incredibly wonky or nonexistent period is a sign of possible health issues.
6. Exercising Excessively: Have you been hitting Soul Cycle every day after work? Training for a marathon? If you’ve taken up a new and intense exercise routine, your period might be thrown off. In fact, people who engage in extreme physical activity sometimes see their periods delayed.
7. Miscalculation: The average menstrual cycle is 28 days, but many, many women have shorter or longer cycles and don’t chart them correctly — so it may be that your period is not actually late. Additionally, the majority of women have cycles that are irregular and don’t necessarily realize it. If your period is early even by a few days one month, it may arrive late the following month.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is not worried about today’s major decamping of several governors who joined the All Progressive Congress (APC), asserting that those members have a right of association.

“We wish to state categorically that the PDP remains unperturbed as we are now rid of detractors and distractions, it said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh, in which it called on its members to remain focused.

It said that by their open declaration, the departing members have unveiled their true intent and “chosen to abandon a broad based national platform” in favour of “a narrow group of ethnic and religious bigots whose main intention is to unleash a state of anarchy” on the country.

“We wish to remind our members that from the rulings of the court there are no factions whatsoever in the PDP. In the eyes of the law, the PDP remains one and an indivisible entity under the leadership of Alh. Dr. Bamanga Tukur, CON. We wish to commend the wise decision of some of the aggrieved Governors to dissociate themselves from the action of some of their colleagues. We assure all Nigerians that the PDP will continue to grow from strength to strength and will definitely emerge stronger from this event.”

Nigerians Happy As Terrorist Leader Asari Dokubo Arrested In Benin Republic

Okah, implicated President Jonathan;  In Jail In South Africa
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has demanded the immediate release of Mr. Asari Dokubo, who has been in police detention in the Republic of Benin since yesterday.

“Even though Mr Asari Dokubo, along with some Niger Delta myopic and corrupt Tribal Assemblies like the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC), Ijaw Monitoring Group (IMG), South-South Peoples Assembly (SSPA) and Elder Edwin K Clark gloated or kept silent over Henry Okah’s setup, arrest and conviction, we will remember the role Mr Asari Dokubo had played in the unfinished struggle before he was bought off along with several others,” it said in a short statement.

It pledged not to abandon Mr. Dokubo at this time just as it will not abandon Henry, his brother Charles Okah and others who are still incarcerated.

“If diplomacy fails to prevail, we will not rule out any form of attacks on the Republic of Benin’s interests,” MEND warned.

Some lawmakers in Lagos on Wednesday lauded the Federal Government’s plan to privatise the four refineries belonging to Nigeria.

They gave the kudos in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, had on Nov. 18 announced that the four refineries would be privatised by the first quarter of 2014.

Mr Rotimi Olowo (APC-Somolu I), the Chairman, House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, said that the development was in the national interest as it would allow the refineries to meet both the local and international consumption.

“All these refineries are moribund. The capacity cannot meet local consumption, let alone for exportation.

“More importantly is the fact that they are not well managed. There are a lot of leakages; corruption will not make those refineries meet our social and economic needs.

“So, let them privatise them, then let there be a target that whoever is going to buy them must refine for local consumption at subsidised rate.

“Then, the exportation can now be done using flat rate that is international price for petroleum product”.

Also, Mr Saka Fafunmi, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Account, appealed to the Federal Government to be transparent in carrying out the exercise.

Fafunmi (APC-Ifako-Ijaiye II) said that the privatisation should be done at a reasonable price.

“If privatisation will be done with transparency, I do not see any wrong in privatising our refineries, knowing full well that government has been running the refineries and without the desired result.

“Oil business is a business and a solid one. That is why you see that major corporations are doing well while government-owned corporations are not doing well in the oil sector.

“We may not have the required expertise to manage most of our operations, but if it is done in the interest of the public at large, is a welcome idea.

Another lawmaker, Mr Bisi Yusuf, advised the Federal Government to wait for the outcome of privatised Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) before embarking on another privatisation.

Yusuf (APC-Alimosho I), the Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Commerce and Industry, said that privatising the refineries was a delicate action that needed to be properly handled.

NAN reports that the Head, Public Communication at Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr Chigbo Anichebe, had said that privatisation of the refineries was part of the ongoing reforms of the oil sector. (NAN)

(NAN)

The Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, NDPVF, has warned Nigeria’s tiny West African neighbor, Benin Republic, to free its leader, Mujahid Asari Dokubo or be ready to incur its wrath.

The NDPVF, a former militant group founded by Dokubo, issued the warning in a statement signed by its leaders, Mr. Rex Ekiugbo Anighoro in Abuja last night, following Tuesday’s arrest and detention of the former militant leader by Benin’s gendarmes (police) in an unknown location.

It would be recalled that radical lawyer, Festus Keyamo, had alerted the nation to the arrest of Dokubo on Tuesday afternoon in Cotonou and lamented that since then, he had been kept incommunicado as his location remained unknown.

Prof. Wole Soyinka
By Segun O'Law

Nobel Laureate, writer and political activist, Professor Wole Soyinka shared summary of his views on the proposed National Conference with citizen journalist, Segun O’Law, who recently met him at an event in Lagos.

In this brief interview, Professor Soyinka indicated to the interviewer that he was not ready to discuss comprehensively on the subject of National Conference yet ; however, he hinted that the conference must not be subjected to the caprices of those in government. The professor said terms of the conference should not only discuss association of the ethnics, but also Nigeria’s form of governance. In determining both, especially the form of governance, the professor said elements currently in government couldn’t be the deciding voices.

The brief interview is reproduced below:

You were among the various people advocating for a National conference, although what you demanded was a ‘sovereign’ conference of citizens. Now that there’s one proposed by the federal government, are you happy about this or is there something that still needs be screwed together?

Professor Soyinka: Well, let me just say that one must attempt to be consistent especially [as] what you believe in is still within the grasp of the proponent. I cannot be against a National Conference. The modalities however, and the ultimate validation of the results are the things at issue.

When you have a national conference, are you sending it back to the legislatures, whose very structure you are resolved to destroy?  So, how can the legislators be the ones to decide the modalities, the validity and the results of the deliberations?  It’s not rational.

In principle, am for a National Conference but my time, our time, on it should not be wasted if the results are going to be sent to the National Assembly. What I believe in, about the structure of governance in this country is [it’s] one that eliminates, absolutely destroys the present forms of legislative governance.

So, for me, they should be part, the legislators should be represented in the National Conference, but they cannot be the deciding voice. Otherwise, lets all go home and forget all about it.

Some have expressed suspicion that the president’s sudden interest on the subject of a National conference might be from a strategy to keep himself in office beyond 2015. Does it really matter who is proposing the conference?

Professor Soyinka: When it is time, that’s a different subject. I don’t want to personalize the purpose of a National Conference. I don’t want to personalize any [relating] issue at all, except I’m compelled to do so by the nuisance value of the individual concerned. Otherwise, let’s keep to the principles, etcetera etcetera, and insist that it is about time that the will of the people is actually expressed in a verifiable way such as a National Referendum, not a structure that is filled with people who have never won an election in all their lives. And quite apart from that, the very system, is it Presidential system, do we want a part-time legislature, can we afford a presidential system? In order words, are we about to take a ‘buttered bread’ out of the mouths of those who are profiting by this very system? And then you ask them, [should] they be the final arbiters? It doesn’t make sense.

So, by questioning the National Conference, we are questioning the very terms, not only of association, but also of governance. And so, how can those who are in governance right now be the deciding voices?

That’s all I want to say at this point, there’ll be a lot more to say later on… a lot more, and I’ll let you know at the appropriate time.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two security guards, Ali Salifu and Eno Kela, with seven others for allegedly robbing pharmaceutical company, May and Baker, in Ikeja Indusrial Estate. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two security guards, Ali Salifu and Eno Kela, with seven others for allegedly robbing pharmaceutical company, May and Baker, in Ikeja Indusrial Estate.

olice Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, told PUNCH Metro that the arrested guards gave other security men in the company some packs of juice laced with a banned drug, Rohypnol, to make them sleep when the robbery was taking place.
She added that policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad were, however, able to foil the operation after some hours of surveillance.
She said, “On August 24, 2013, SARS operatives received information that some robbers were planning to rob May and Baker at Ikeja. Around 9pm, the robbers had duplicated a key to the warehouse where the company’s products were kept. We learnt that some of the security guards had connived with the robbers after being promised N200,000.
“The robbers also gave the security men laced juice and told them to give it to other security men at the company to make them sleep. The robbers came in two trucks and were loading cartons of two expensive drugs, Sulphatride and Thyzamide, into the trucks when they were apprehended.
“Policemen from SARS stormed the place and foiled the robbery. The robbers, who were in possession of two AK-47 rifles, immediately threw their guns into the warehouse when they saw the policemen.
“The robbers and the prospective buyer of the stolen goods have all been arrested.”
The suspects, however, said they were not armed during the robbery.
The security guards also denied complicity. They said they did not know that a robbery was taking place on the premises until policemen arrived at the scene.
Salifu said, “They had approached me before, saying they wanted to rob and they would give me N200, 000 but I refused. On the day they came, they told me they were going to another company. I did not know they came to rob.”
The suspect accused of masterminding the operation, Olanrewaju Simeon, said this was his second time of robbing the company.
Simeon, who claimed to have been in charge of the company’s security before his dismissal in 2011, said he was expecting N1m from the operation.
He said, “I have been jobless since I was asked to leave the company in 2011. But I understand how things are done at the company. Last year, I successfully robbed the place and made N1m. This year, I got in touch with another security guard at the company, Richard, who gave me the go ahead to rob.
”May and Baker shares the compound with five other companies, so the security guards at the main gate are different from those attached to May and Baker. I understood this very well and Richard told me that he would get some drinks, inject them with Rohypnol and give them to the security guards at May and Baker, telling them that he was celebrating his birthday.”

APC GOVERNORS AT THEIR INAUGURAL MEETING IN LAFIA, NASARAWA STATE IN JULY
The 11 governors of the All Progressives Congress under the aegis of Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) have congratulated the five Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, who defected to the opposition party on Tuesday.
The PDP governors that defected to APC are Governors Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto),  Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers). The five governors form part of the G-7 governors, who engaged in open confrontation with the Bamanga Tukur-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party and President Goodluck Jonathan over the way the party is being run and the plan to hand the president an automatic return ticket to vie for a second term in office come 2015. The governors of Niger and Jigawa States – Babangida Aliyu and Sule Lamido respectively, however, decided to stay put in PDP and continue their fight from within.
But the defection of the five governors was described by the PGF as “courageous” just as they were hailed “for taking the historic step of leaving the governing, albeit, fast crumbling PDP into the progressives fold”.
A statement signed by the 11 APC governors namely Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Kashim Shettima (Borno), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Umaru Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Rochas Okorocha (Imo) and Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe) on Monday night, said that the coming of the five PDP governors to the APC, “despite all manners of intimidation, harassment and persecution by the Federal Government and the PDP is worthy of commendation and is indicative of a strong personal principles and commitment to the progress of Nigeria.”

A mixed martial arts fighter who who once faked his own death was sentenced Monday for robbing a gun store with a hammer.
Charles Rowan, 26, was sentenced to 17.5-40 years in prison for armed robbery, the New York Times reported. In August, Rowan, whose cage-fighting name was “Freight Train,” pleaded guilty to the March robbery of Guns and Stuff, a gun store in Gladwin County, Mich.
Rowan brutally beat the store’s owner, man-hood Robinette, with a hammer before making off with eight handguns, ABC 12 reported. Rowan’s accomplice and girlfriend, Rosalinda Martinez, stayed behind to call 911, then told cops she was just an innocent bystander.
At the time, most of Rowan’s friends and family believed he was dead. Only weeks earlier, on the night of the fifth cage match of Rowan’s career, Martinez called Rowan’s friends and family members to tell them he died in a car accident.
Everybody believed Rowan was really dead, going so far as to organize benefit MMA fights in his honor, according to the Times. However, the death was actually a hoax, created by Rowan and Martinez to help evade the $80,000 debt he owed a drug dealer. Rowan actually watched his own memorial service, hiding in an upstairs bedroom.
The jig was up two days after the robbery, however, when Rowan’s mug shot surfaced and his grieving friends and family realized he was alive.
Robinette, who was injured during the robbery, attends physical therapy multiple times a week.
Maritnez was sentenced to a minimum of 5 years, 10 months and a maximum of 30 years in prison for her involvement in the robbery.

Asari Dokubo

Ex-leader of the defunct Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, was on Tuesday arrested in Cotonou, capital of Benin Republic.
It was learnt that the former militant leader, who claims to be a citizen of the tiny West African country, was arrested at about 1.00pm by the country’s gendarmes (police).
A statement by his lawyer and friend, Festus Keyamo, which confirmed the arrest, said Asari-Dokubo was picked up for no particular reason around the Lubeleyi roundabout and taken to “an unknown destination.”
Keyamo, in the statement on Tuesday, noted that Asari-Dokubo, a vocal supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan’s reelection bid in 2015, had been residing partly in Benin Republic for many years, adding that the ex-militant even owns houses, schools and an academy in Cotonou.
The statement reads in part, “Today, Tuesday, November 26, 2013, my friend and client, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, around the hours of 1pm and 2pm by the country’s gendarmes (police).

The leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) is to march to the Headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja tomorrow to submit a formal petition calling for the outright cancelation of the controversial governorship election in the Anambra State.
A source within the party who did not wish to be identified said the leadership will march from the headquarters of the party to Maitama to formally present their grievances over the irregularities that characterized the election.
It would be recalled that INEC announced last week it would hold a supplementary election in some parts of the state on November 30.  The protest will be coming two days before that election, if it holds.
The INEC announcement further infuriated the stakeholders, leading some of the candidates and political parties to call for a mass boycott of the exercise.

Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State

By SaharaReporters, New York

Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State has explained to the people of the State that his New Peoples Democratic Party merged with the All Progressives Congress because it became clear they could not achieve the goals and aspirations of the people under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“Our quest for a democracy where the people would remain the focus of government and governance is bound to suffer a stillbirth under the present arrangement,” he said in a press statement.

“We are Nigerians and people of the Niger Delta, but we are also Rivers people and live in Rivers state. We are concerned that our well-being is not central to the leadership of the PDP. We do not find this satisfactory. We have therefore decided that it is in our best interest that we move to a party that shares the hopes and aspirations of our people and realizes and recognizes our right to exist and be treated as equal partners in our democracy. We are not and will not allow ourselves to be treated as a second rate poor cousin. We are equal stakeholders and daresay major contributors to the common wealth.”

A 21 year old Nigerian named Kayode Oshin (pictured right), who uploaded a video on YouTube boasting about trying to murder a rival with a machine gun was jailed for 22 years yesterday, Daily Mail reports.
His accomplice, Junior Tahir-Akinyele (pictured left) was jailed for 14 years.

“Kayode Oshin, 21, attempted to assassinate Yassin Zouaiou with a Mac 10 in a feud over drugs and money in Hounslow, west London, after being enticed into a world of gang culture and crime’, a court heard.

Mr Zouaiou survived when the gun jammed – but a single bullet was fired, hitting his brother Mohammed Ali Subhani in the neck. But Oshin then posted a rap video bragging about the shooting on YouTube.

The shooting was carried out in an alleyway between North Drive and Kingsley Road, Hounslow, at around 1am on October 6, 2011, the court heard.

Oshin and a second man, Junior Tahir-Akinyele, 19, were arrested the next day in a white Mercedes-Benz they had hired for the attack.

The story of Ben Underwood, who despite being blind is able to map a detailed mental plan of his surroundings.

Ben Underwood lives with his family in the suburbs of Sacramento, California where he attends his local high school. Like any other 14-year-old boy, he loves to play with his friends and chat to girls his age, with whom he seems popular. He looks like any other boy, until he removes his $4,600, hand-crafted eyes. Ben is blind and, like other blind people, relies on some specialist equipment to survive. He uses talking computer software and a Braille machine to help with his homework.

Ben does not have a guide dog, uses no stick, and does not even use his hands to aid his mobility. Instead, he has developed something of a super sense: he is the only person in the world who navigates using clicks. As he walks, he makes a continuous clicking noise with his tongue. As these clicks echo around him, he is able to draw up a detailed mental plan of his surroundings and adjust his direction accordingly.

So accurate is his technique that he is even able to go rollerblading on the street, negotiating narrow gaps between parked cars that even sighted children might find challenging. In fact, Ben's mother, Aquanetta, inds that her son is far more attentive to the dangers of the road than his friends, always the first to move onto the pavement when a car approaches.

Ben first noticed his talent at the age of seven, when at summer camp. While it began as just a habit, Ben explains, he soon realised that it had potential benefits for navigation. He began to practise every day and developed the system to the point it is at today. It is the fact that Ben is entirely self-taught that is perhaps most astonishing and has led people to use the term 'genius' when referring to the boy.

..UNILAG chapter divided over strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU yesterday warned vice chancellors not to adopt coercive and forceful strategies to get lecturers to resume work. ASUU Chairman at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, Ondo State, Dr. Busuyi Mekusi, gave the advice in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

“We are also pleading with the university administrators not to illegally employ impromptu lecturers.

“They should also not announce fake resumption dates or disrupt the meetings of ASUU members on campuses. “Such measures will not abate the already frosty relationship between the union, government and the university authorities”, he stressed.

He called for the convocation of ‘institutional summit’ as a way of starting the take-off of a rebirth process for public institutions in Nigeria to become more effective. He said social transformation would not succeed unless the Federal Government was strongly committed to entrenching strong and independent public agencies

. “We must not continue to deceive ourselves that governance, democracy and politics will reach enviable heights with the kind of public institutions in place.

Mr Idris Dambazau, Kano State Commissioner for Special Duties says government has completed the construction of 1,500 houses for flood victims in 2012.

Dambazzau told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday that the figure was out of the 3,000 houses it was building for victims in three local government areas.

He said the houses were constructed at the cost of N2.4 billion in Warawa, Kunci and Makoda Local Government Areas.

Dambazzau said the State Government found it necessary to construct the houses so as to relocate the victims from the river banks and other flood prone areas.

He said as soon as the second phase of the houses currently under construction was completed, they would be allocated to the victims.

“We want to settle all the affected persons at the same time. That is why we have not allocated the houses so far completed’’, the commissioner said.

Dambazau urged the victims to be patient as the state government was making effort to ensure that the houses were completed according to contractual agreement.

The commissioner, who declined to give time frame for the completion of the project, however, disclosed that each of the houses cost N800,000.

On this year’s flood victims, Dambazau said the state government would soon distribute relief materials donated by the National Emergency Management Agency to them.

“The Federal Government recently donated four trucks loaded with mattresses, blankets, plastics and utensils for distribution to flood victims in six local government areas in Kano municipality.

“We are just waiting for the state government’s directive to distribute the materials’’, he said. (NAN)

A river with healing powers mysteriously appeared in Nachi, a community in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Already named 'Orimiri Jordan' (River Jordan) it has become a Pilgrimage Centre, playing host to people from all parts of Nigeria.

Countless testimonies abound as Nigerians struggle to dip themselves into the River.

According to reports, it all started on the 11th day of November 2013 when a Fulani herdsman ran to the community and announced how water covered the place just few minutes after he passed.

“He told us that he passed that place with his herd of cattle and soon after, heard a strange noise; when he turned back, he discovered that a big stream has appeared at the same place he just passed with his cattle. At that point, he ran to Garki and informed his relatives, who also came there and discovered that the water had healing power. From that point, the news spread to the community”, a source disclosed.

Speaking on the origin of the river, the traditional ruler of Nachi community, His Royal Highness, Igwe F.O Onuigbo, Obi II of Nachi, said that at his palace that the mystery River was older than him.

He said “I used to pass through that area to attend school at Inyi-Achi in Oji River, in the early 40s. In those days, there is no water there, the only thing you see there is white sand. But once you get there and you are thirsty, all you need to do is to scratch the surface of the land and ask if for water, water will full your hand immediately if you are an upright person, but if you are evil, no water will come out. That has been the situation”.

Another octogenarian, Chief Festus Ude said “later, we noticed that after some years, the water will form a stream there and would disappear in few weeks. If such happens, we will be fetching water there. However, women who are menstruating and evil people don’t go there. We never heard about healing power of the River until this recent appearance of the River.

“The last time it appeared was in 1992, and at that time, it just formed a small stream, which later disappeared. It has never been as large as this. This is all I know, we have never known about its healing power, this is the first time we are hearing about healing, I don’t whether it is true, we equally heard it like you”.
Commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called “Okada”, photographers and petty traders, are already making business out of it.

Bitter leaf
Bitter cola

Bitter flavor and medicinal bitters are essential for our internal health. They balance the sweet, salty and rich foods that are overwhelmingly packed into the standard diet. It’s time for bitters to finally take the spotlight because a bitterless diet results in poor digestion, gas and bloating, heartburn, constipation, fatigue and poor skin. If you’re like most people, you’ve probably experienced one or more of those conditions. We spend millions every year on medications that shut off stomach acid or ease bowel movements. Why not give bitters a chance and prevent those problems from happening in the first place?

You’re likely familiar with the flavor bitter, but do you really know what bitters are? No, I don’t mean the common bar mixer — which may contain flavors of bitter herbs that are not medicinal. The term “bitters” refers to helpful foods and herbs traditionally ingested around mealtimes to help the digestive process move along without a hiccup… or burp. Benefits of bitters:

• Start digestion if taken shortly before a meal

• Encourage digestion to occur normally and decrease the need for digestive aids

Reactions yesterday poured in on the defection of five governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Former governor of Lagos State and leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said the party is still expecting more PDP members. According to him, the APC was persuading very important and influential personalities across the country.

“It is a good rescue mission for our fledgling democracy. It is a must for the country, is very necessary and we are happy about that,” Tinubu declared.

On APC’s next step, Tinubu said: “We cannot divulge all our strategies to the media at once, it is better to give it to you piece meal in order not to even create confusion anywhere. We are happy with the development, we have commitment to rescue our country from drifting and we act as a group to promote the interest of this country.”

He added: “Are you seeing the trend with which we are going? It is a free society, somebody is giving you seven now, somebody can decide tomorrow morning to come on board that makes it eight. Do we do subtraction and addition when tallied on the pages of newspaper only. We are thinking of the calibre and the character of people, not numerical exchanges of numbers.”

A Dietician in the Department of Dietetics, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Mr Peter Stephen, on Tuesday advised against peeling of yam before cooking it.

According to Mr Stephen, cooking yam with the skin reduces its sugar content.
He noted that yam and rice had high Glycemic Index (GI) which increased blood sugar level, and advised that yam should not be peeled before cooking to reduce the sugar content.

GI is a numerical scale used to indicate how fast and how high a particular food can raise blood glucose (blood sugar) level.

“The skin of yam that is normally peeled off contains proteins and vitamin B Complex.

It also has soluble fibre that absorbs sugar inside the yam.

When the yam is properly cooked, you peel off the skin before eating.

When you cook your yam with the skin, it will not increase the blood sugar level.

By the time you eat the yam with vegetables, it gives you a better result,” he said.

Stephen listed foods with low GI to include tomatoes, soya beans and beans.

He noted that such foods had natural substances lowered blood sugar level.

He advised people, especially diabetic patients, to mix foods with low GI with those with high GI in the ratio of 2:1 to maintain a good blood sugar level.

“Rice has high GI, so, if you want to eat it, mix it with food with low GI such as beans.

If you take five spoons of rice, you have to take 10 spoons of beans to help to slow down the rate sugar is absorbed in the blood.

Even if you are not diabetic, you have to control your sugar level because prevention is better than cure,” the dietician advised.

“Multi-party democracy is now entrenched in our nation, everyone is free to take advantage of this and move to any political party where he or she believes his or her political interest will be best served.

Justice Peter Affen of the Abuja High Court yesterday voluntarily took himself away from having to adjudicate on the case of forgery of a presidential directive being pursued against two journalists of the Leadership Newspapers stable by the federal government.

The judge hails from Bayelsa, the home state of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He explained he made the decision in the interest of integrity and to preserve the sanctity of the judiciary, given a media report of a link between him and the President, who is directly involved in the case.

In the dock are the Group News Editor of the newspaper, Tony Amokeodo, and Political Correspondent Chibuzor Ukaibe.

Curiously, the case file had been reportedly withdrawn from Justice Usman Musale, without a request by any of the parties, and then assigned to Justice Affen, allegedly a kinsman of President Jonathan, despite the appearance of impropriety.

Unfortunately, staying active is a lifestyle that we as a population have grown out of. But you can regain this commitment by following these five rules.
Break a sweat every day

Challenge yourself every day to participate in a physical activity that causes you to get out of breath or sweat. To change your body, you must train outside of your comfort zone. If you like your body the way it is, then don't stress it. But if you want to build strength, get a six-pack or lose fat, then work hard.

When exercising, you should not be able to carry on a conversation with your buddy. (Don't get me started on people reading a magazine on the treadmill.) Next time you're at the gym:

    Increase your weights
Hit the incline on your treadmill or run hills
    Add a plyometrics workout
Combine strength training with various rounds of conditioning; for example, perform a Overhead Shoulder Press, then sprint on a treadmill at nine mph on a six-inch incline for 30 seconds. Rest for 90 seconds and repeat four times.

Go back to grade school

You did it all when you were younger: jumped rope, climbed trees, went bike riding and ran sprints around the playground. You couldn't sit still long enough to stay at a desk or computer like you do now.

Become more active. Go for a walk or jog in the morning before starting your day. Join a group fitness class, recreational league, swim club, ski or bowling team.
Use what you have

Look around and take a quick inventory of what's available to exercise with. Do you have a bike, rope, old tires to flip, chains to pull, balls to throw, boxes to jump on or paint cans to carry? If you have some of this stuff and a creative mind, you can put together a great workout. You don't need a expensive gym membership to look expensive. (Got a rope? Five Reasons to Go Back to Basics With the Jump Rope.)
Eat clean

By eating as clean as you can, you'll automatically avoid foods loaded with sugar, trans fat, and saturated fat. Eat foods that display a variety of colors more frequently, and keep everything in moderation. Plan time to go to the grocery store so you are not rushed. Also, plan your weekly meals ahead of time. (See What's Fake and What's Real? The Ultimate Food Survival Guide and No, Really—Don't Shop When You're Hungry: A Study.)
Rest as hard as you work

There's a fine line between the amount of work you do and the rest that you allow yourself. Rest can take the form of physical rest, or, for most of us, mental rest. Exercising, deep breathing, and vacations will take care of your mental rest. If you feel physically exhausted, try switching up your workout routine or take a week off. You will come back fresh and ready to do more. (See Why You Shouldn't Work Out Every Day.)
