Eight prosecution witnesses are to testify against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and two others when their trial for alleged treason and other ancillary offences begins next year, according to the Punch.
Nnamdi Kanu is accused of treasonable felony through his alleged agitation in his broadcasts on Radio Biafra for the secession of Biafra Republic from Nigeria.
Among the witnesses is a Dutch, Ronald Stilting, the manager of Golden Tulip Airport Hotel, Lagos, where Nnamdi Kanu allegedly lodged into using a fictional name in order to evade arrest.

Kanu and his two co-defendants are facing a six count charge of treason and other charges instituted against him by the federal government.

The director of public prosecutions, Mohammed Diri stated that: “Kanu is the self-acclaimed founder and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, the pedestal on which he is propagating a secessionist agenda, aimed at carving a Republic of Biafra out of the Federal Republic of Nigeria before he was arrested on 14th October, 2015 at Golden Tulip Hotel, Lagos, where he checked in, using a fictitious name of Ezebuiro Nwannekaenyi, apparently to conceal his identity.”

The manager of the hotel confirmed to DSS that Kanu checked into the hotel on the previous day in another name.

In the statement, Stilting stated that: “I met the director of SSS (DSS) and a number of agents there who were searching for a Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who was supposed to be lodging in our hotel.

“Nobody was registered under that name in our systems.

“I assisted the agents to check all occupied rooms. Eventually, we found a suspicious person in Room 303, who turned out to be Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who had registered under another name.

“I had never seen the man before and I am not aware of Mr. Nnamdi’s activities.”

The DPP stated that Kanu, a citizen of both Nigeria and Britain, had as his name on the Nigerian passport, Nwannekaenyi Nnamdi Ngozichukwu Okwukanu, while his British passport bore Nnamdi Kenny Okwukanu.

According to the charge preferred against him, Kanu is accused of treasonable felony through his alleged agitation in his broadcasts on Radio Biafra for the secession of Biafra Republic from Nigeria.

On Wednesday, December 23, a Federal High Court presided by Justice Ahmed Mohammed remitted the case file of the federal republic of Nigeria versus Nnamdi Kanu to the chief judge of the court.

Mohammed’s action came after the accused person, Kanu, prior to hearing his plea objected the court’s attempt to preside over allegations against him by the state.

Kanu said he lacked confidence in the court and doubted if any ruling or decision made by the court will be obeyed by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS).

Meanwhile, Prince Kanu, a brother to the director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has called the report on an apology rendered to the Nigerian president by his brother “a blatant lie”.

Contrary to reports in some quarters that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government earmarked the sum of N1.7 billion for feeding in the Presidential Villa, a copy of the relevant section of the 2016 Appropriation Bill obtained by The Herald showed that only about N114.97 million was earmarked.

Recall that rumour had pervaded the media space, especially the social media, that Buhari planned to surpass the amount spent by the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as many as four times.

A comparative analysis of the last administration’s total expenditure on “feeding” which included items like Food Stuff / Catering Materials Supplies, Cooking Gas/Fuel Cost, Refreshment & Meals, and Purchase Of canteen / Kitchen Equipment, in the last two years showed it allocated more funds than the new administration.

While the 2014 figure showed N542.86 million and the 2015 N526.17 million under former President Jonathan, the 2016 under Buhari is slightly lower, at N445.49 million.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti state has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop lying and trying to manipulate themselves back into power.
The party denied allegations by the APC in Ekiti that the state governor, Ayodele Fayose’s trip to Dubai cost the government N250 million, Vanguard reports.

They challenged the APC and its leaders to approach the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), since their government in Abuja claimed to be fighting corruption.

The PDP in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti by Jackson Adebayo, the state publicity secretary of the party described the accusation as childish.

The statement read: “It is obvious that the economic devourers in the APC believed that the Fayose-led government must also be pilfering the state the way they did when they ran the state like a fiefdom for four years.

“The APC in Ekiti state should perish the thought of lying and manipulating themselves back to power as they did in 2010 because Ekiti people can no longer be conned by people whose only interest is the stealing of the collective wealth of the state.”

The party advised the APC to pay attention to their president, Muhammadu Buhari, who has travelled out of Nigeria 17 times in the last seven months, wasting billions of naira and also proposing to spend N18.1 billion to run the State House as against N6.6 billion budgeted for same in 2015 by the PDP-led government of Goodluck Jonathan.

“It is only a party of people who do not know any other thing apart from stealing that will believe that N250 million could be spent by the governor to travel abroad out of monthly income of N1.3 billion.

“However, we in the PDP are not surprised in anyway because people who came to power through falsehood, ruled for four years through falsehood and stole the state blind, using white elephant projects like planting of flowers, aristocratic governor’s lodge, pavilion, among others must have the belief that others are thieves and insensitive to the plight of the people like them,” the party said.

The PDP alleged that some APC leaders led by a top security officer who worked with former Governor Kayode Fayemi was at the Ado Ekiti Prisons on Monday to see those being tried for their alleged involvement in kidnappings in the state and the murder of former National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) boss, Omolafe Aderiye.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has apologised to President Muhammadu Buhari for calling him a terrorist, evil and a paedophile in his radio broadcasts.

Kanu, who has been charged along with two others by the Federal Government before a Federal High Court in Abuja on six counts of treason and other ancillary offences, said he intended to write a private letter to Buhari to express his apology to the President.

He also apologised to former President Goodluck Jonathan and Igbo elders for “some uncomplimentary things” he said about them.

The 48-year-old pro-Biafran agitation leader, who is, however, unapologetic about his demand for a Republic of Biafra, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since his arrest in Lagos on October 14, 2015.

He tendered the apology for his comment against Buhari and others in a statement which he made to the DSS on October 23.

The prosecution, in its summary of the case, alleged that in one of the radio broadcasts by Kanu on August 1, 2015, he expressed his resolve to actualise the Republic of Biafra and “cast aspersions on the person and the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

The statement read in part, “Reference to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a terrorist, evil and a paedophile is regrettable and uncalled for and for that, I unreservedly apologise and will be doing so in a private letter to the President.

“Before PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) there was the administration of Goodluck Jonathan. I also said uncomplimentary things about him and Igbo elders as well, which I now recognise should not have happened because it is un-African to be rude or insolent to elders.

“All I was trying to do is to draw attention to the problems afflicting society and something done about them.”

Kanu, who described himself as a Nigerian and a British citizen, justified his agitation for a Biafra Republic.

He said IPOB’s secessionist agenda was informed by the “incessant hardship, lack of holistic development in the socio-economic landscape of Nigeria, lack of youth employment, corruption in high offices and economic regression.”

He added that the agitation by IPOB, which, according to him, was founded in London in 2012 by a group of people from the South-South and South-East regions of the country, was in line with the United Nations Charter on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples ratified by African countries, including Nigeria.

In contrast to the counts of managing and assisting in the management of an unlawful society preferred against Kanu and two others, the Radio Biafra founder stated that IPOB, which the prosecution described as unlawful, was registered with the UN to pursue the rights of the people of Biafra.

He stated, “I can confirm that I, Nnamdi Kanu, is the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra worldwide as a legitimately and duly registered body at the United Nations pursuing the rights of a specific indigenous people, in this case, Biafra, to seek self determination according to the said charter.

“The reason for the formation of the Indigenous People of Biafra is to avail those referring to themselves as Biafrans the opportunity made available as a result of the United Nations declaration to seek the peaceful rebirth of Biafra in line with international law.”

Kanu, who is a son of a traditional ruler in Abia State, Sir I.O. Kanu, said he operated Radio Biafra, whose programmes “are designed to wake up the public from its slumber and address the issues of the time” because of his belief in free speech and freedom of expression.

He explained that the intended Biafra Republic comprised Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states as well the Igbanke part of Edo State; Igala part of Kogi State and Idoma/Igede part of Edo State.

Apart from Kanu, one of the two other defendants in the six counts filed by the Federal Government is a Field Maintenance Engineer, David Nwawuisi, charged with the responsibility of maintaining MTN masts in Enugu State.

The other defendant, Benjamin Madubugwu, was said to be living in the Ubilisiuzo, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, where he allegedly received custody of a container, housing transmitters, from Kanu.

On December 23 during the accused persons’ appearance in court for their scheduled arraignment, Kanu refused to take his plea due to what he called his lack of confidence in the presiding judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed.

The judge promptly returned the case file to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, for reassignment to another judge and the three accused persons were returned to the custody of the Department of State Services.

The fresh charges were filed against the three men barely 24 hours after Justice Adeniyi Ademola, in a ruling on Kanu’s bail application on December 17, ordered his unconditional release from DSS custody having been detained for about two months without any valid charges filed against him

I Regret Calling Buhari A Terrorist, Evil And A Paedophile – Nnamdi Kanu

President Buhari said: ”When my VP is quoted, how can I disown it? We may have to send the young unemployed youth seeking N5k fee to farm to earn the money.”

When answered about difficulty in identifying the unemployed for cash transfers, the leader of the nation says “you know Nigerians, we are a very difficult lot.”

He also speaks on minimum wage: “I cannot answer the question of N18 000 minimum wage, now and the federal govt will not touch that. The federal gov’t will not touch minimum wage.”

The All Progressives Congress led Federal government in December said that the payment of the N5000 stipend to the unemployed Nigerians will start next year.

It regretted that the payment could not take off now due to non budgetary provisions.

APC had promised payment of N5,000 to unemployed Nigerians as a social security package during electioneering campaign.

The founder and spiritual leader of One Love Family sect, Satguru Maharaj ji, on Friday urged pro-Biafra agitators to refrain from acts that could threaten the nation’s unity.
He made the plea in Ibadan at a press conference marking his 68th birthday anniversary.

Maharaj ji said that Nigerians must learn from the current insurgency in the North East, which had resulted in loss of lives and property.

According to the sect leader, the current security challenges confronting the country required the support of all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliations.

Maharaj ji, who said that the Biafra issue had died since 1968, urged all Nigerians to pray for the country and its leaders.

“The issue of bad roads and infrastructural decay in the country were responsible for this agitation and it needs urgent attention to avoid another Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

“Igbo traditional rulers should be invited in finding a solution to this issue of Biafra.

“The country is right now fully in control of its security situation and the issue of Biafra should urgently be attended to before it escalates to what we do not expect”, Maharaj ji said.

The self-declared Living Perfect Master also rejected the Frivolous Petitions Bill popularly called Anti-Social Media Bill currently before the Senate, saying the new media platforms offer ordinary citizens avenues to question their leaders.

Maharaj ji, who expressed support for the anti-corruption campaign of President Muhammed Buhari, however, called for accelerated hearings in corruption cases to serve as a deterrent.

The Nigerian Government on Friday said as from January 1, 2016 the pump price of the petrol would be reduced to N85 per litre.
The product officially sells for N87 per litre, although it sells for higher prices in some states of the federation with fuel scarcity biting hard in the last two months.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Emmanuel Kachikwu, disclosed this to journalists at the Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC), where he spent Christmas inspecting the plant.

Asked when the Federal Government would release the new price template of the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulation Agency (PPPRA), Mr. Kachikwu said he approved the new price for the agency on Thursday.

“Like I said, we have done a modulation calculation and it is showing us below N87”, Mr. Kachikwu said. “I imagine that if PPPRA publishes it today, it will become effective immediately. But the 1st of January that is when we are looking at”.

The Minister explained that with the new pump price set to take effect in a matter of days, Nigerians would be convinced that the pricing modulation that the Federal Government promised to embark on recently, was not a gimmick.

He noted that following analyses and research, government realized the country could fluctuate fuel price in accordance with the crude oil market fundamentals.

Justifying government’s reasons for scrapping the Petroleum Support Fund otherwise known as oil subsidy, Mr. Kachikwu explained that government could no longer afford to subsidize the product following the fraud that has attended its operation. He further stated that it had become obvious that government earnings were dipping on daily basis.

As is customary with most Christian leaders at the end of any particular year, they issue prophecies regarding events and happenings to look out for in the New Year. While some of the prophecies have been spot on, most of them have been wide-off the mark.
The outgoing year – 2015 – was no exception as prophet after prophet jostled for news space with their predictions for the year, especially since it was an election year.

Predictably, many of them predetermined the outcome of the 2015 presidential elections and did they get it right?

INFORMATION NIGERIA culled some highlights of the 2015 prophecies that never came to pass from LEADERSHIP Friday.

Excerpts:

Guru Maharaji

For the spiritual leader of One Love Family, Sat Guru Maharaji, Jonathan’s victory was a foreclosed issue. “There is no vacancy for Buhari at Aso Rock. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is the verifiable divine choice of the forthcoming presidential election”, he declared.

Guru Maharaji was completely far off the mark with this particular prophecy as Buhari is occupying Aso Rock at the moment.

Apostle Johnson Suleman

Another popular prophet, Apostle Johnson Suleman of the Auchi, Edo State-based Omega Fire Ministry, it would be better if President Jonathan quietly returned to his village in Otuoke and not seek re-election because of the level of bloodshed he saw that would greet his re-election.

“2015 election is another June 12. The man who truly won, will not govern or rule”, was how the Apostle put his own.

Although, he was not categorical, these words of Apostle Suleman implied that Jonathan was favoured to win but after that, violence may consume him. He thus advised that the “divinely favoured candidate quit the race or face the regrettable consequences”.

Prophet Olaniyi Odutayo

Prophet Olaniyi Odutayo of the World Prophetic Church, Ikeja, had in the countdown to the March 28, 2015 presidential poll, claimed by divine revelation, that President Goodluck Jonathan would defeat three strong contenders to emerge victorious.

Odutayo, who was said to have fasted for 40 days, declared that God revealed to him that although the opposition would win more states in the election, President Jonathan would win a second term in office.

He said, “During the prayer/fasting, the Lord showed me three men trying to bury Goodluck Jonathan. Each one of them was trying to bury him one after the other, but as they pushed down his head, he rose up again. After the third man pushed down his head, he thought he had prevailed, he was already jubilating but suddenly Goodluck rose up”.

Prophet Joseph Oladipupo.
For Prophet Joseph Oladipupo of the Akure, Ondo State-based Faith and Victory Church, God said Muhammadu Buhari, the major challenger of the then incumbent president, Jonathan, would not win.

“The upcoming election will be very tough for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but they will win the presidency”, he said.

Primate Elijah Ayodele

Popular among the prophets is Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, who predicted that God showed him Jonathan would continue to rule till 2019.

“The 2015 elections will hold but will be peaceful in some areas and not in other areas. As it is, from what I see at the moment, PDP will win, amidst serious criticism”, the founder and General Overseer of the church said as far back as January 2013.

Prophet Paul Okikiiesu
A Lagos prophet, Paul Okikijesu was also not quite clear with his prediction, but said correctly that Buhari might be voted for on one condition – he should “surrender his heart to me”.

It is not known if the then APC candidate surrendered his heart to Prophet Okikiiesu, the cleric, however, added a caveat: “they will neither release power to him nor swear him in as the president of the nation. His situation will be similar to Abiola that had people’s mandate, but was not given the chance to rule the country”.

Babatunde Elijah Ayodele
The founder of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Oke-Afa, Isolo, Lagos, Babatunde Elijah Ayodele, whose prophecy concerning the presidential election was first made in January 2013, further came up with some predictions as the 2015 general elections drew close. He foretold ahead of the election: “Kaduna is going to be very bloody. PDP may take Kaduna, but it’s going to be by narrow margin. Yobe, Gombe, Benue, Delta, Akwa Ibom, all those states will be won by PDP”.

After the election, not only did APC win Kaduna, the election was calm and not bloody. Also, the PDP missed clinching Yobe and Benue governorship seats as the primate had predicted. He was right on Gombe while Akwa Ibom is still a subject of litigation with the Appeal Court already nullifying PDP’s victory in the state.

On the presidential election, the cleric had this to say about Jonathan: “This election is a lesson for him and there are still lessons for him to learn if he now gets it back. He still needs a lot of prayers. But in the midst of all the ups and downs, he may still have a very slim chance of winning the election. I don’t see any landslide victory at all between him and Buhari. At the end of the day, PDP will win the federal, but the party will crash after the election”.

Archbishop John Obiokeke
Archbishop John Obiokeke of God Pentecostal Mission Churches is reputed to have made some predictions which came to pass. However, his predictions on the 2015 presidential election seem to have missed the mark. At the early hours of 2015, he made predictions which foretold the coming back of Jonathan after the election. He had prophesied in January, “God is saying that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock. For reasons best known to him, Jonathan, even though will rig, is still going to be the president”. His prophecy ended on an assuring note that “the election is going to be tight, but Jonathan will return”.

Brother Joshua Iginla

Prophet Joshua Iginla is the founder of Champions Royal Assembly, a new-generation church based in Kubwa, Abuja.

He is among those whose prophecies on the 2015 presidential election didn’t come to pass.

Joshua once said in an interview in January this year, “I am not a politician nor do I belong to any political party. I am just speaking God’s mind. The person sitting on the seat might not be perfect but he will retain the seat. It’s not guesswork… President Jonathan will win, but he has to pray about his health and so many political blows”.

SEE The Prophecies About 2015 Presidential Election That Never Came To Pass

Posted by Sylvester No comments

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced moves to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to checkmate the registration of smuggled vehicles.

The Public Relation officer of the NCS, Adewale Adeniyi, a Deputy Comptroller, said the programme has reached an advanced stage, adding that the aim was to eliminate the smuggling of vehicles into the country.

Adeniyi who disclosed this at a training programme orgainsed for maritime journalists by the Apapa Customs Command said that it is partnering with the commission as part of the global network initiative with other stakeholders.

He explained that once a smuggled vehicle get to the commission’s office for registration, it will trigger off the commission’s alarm, an indication that the vehicle did not pass through Customs’ clearing process.
The system, according to Adeniyi, is that there is an inter-connectivity between the Customs service and Commission the with a view to reducing or eliminating the issue of smuggling particular vehicles.

“An on-line platform is being developed to ensure that smuggled vehicles are not registered in the country. Once duty is paid on any vehicle, it will sail through the registration process but the system will trigger off itself if that vehicle does not pass through Customs clearing process.

“This is part of the Customs collaborative effort in bringing about orderliness in the system so as to grow the economy.”
