Amanpreet was said to be on a Cameroon-bound vessel when he fell off the ship into the water around Tincan Island.
Unfortunately for Amanpreet, his fall was not noticed immediately. However, when his travelling companions were unable to find him on board, PUNCH Metro gathered that they realised that he had fallen into the water and after an unsuccessful attempt to find him, contacted the police.
Our correspondent learned that the victim remained in the water for almost five hours until he was found by the anti-crime unit of the Marine police.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Police Command, Ngozi Braide, while confirming the incident, said Amanpreet was found floating on a raft.
She said, “The Anti-crime unit of Marine Police on a routine patrol in the Lagos anchorage around 5.38pm, rescued one Singu Amanpreet of about 29 years. He had fallen overboard his vessel, MSC MONICA, that left the Tincan Island Port Lagos on Monday around 1pm.
“He has been taken to a military hospital for medical attention. He said he was in the sea for about five hours and if not for the timely intervention of the Nigerian Marine Police, he just might have died.”
