Novak Djokovic Defeated After Five-Set Loss In Australian Open Second Round

Novak Djokovic is out of the Australian Open after being rocked by Uzbek Denis Istomin in five sets.

The defending champion was knocked out of the second round of the Australian Open on Thursday losing 7-6(8) 5-7 2-6 7-6(5) 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena.

It was six-times champion Djokovic’s earliest elimination from Melbourne Park since his first round exit in 2006.

No. 117-ranked Istomin, who dropped out of the top 100 last year, had never beaten a top 10 player at a Grand Slam tournament. His only previous win in 33 matches against a top 10 player was back in 2012 at Indian Wells, when he beat No. 5 David Ferrer.

“It is the biggest win for me. It means so much,” Istomin said. “Now I feel I can play with these guys, and to be with them on the same level.”

Manchester City’s Yaya Toure Embarrasses Kelechi Iheanacho on Live TV

Yaya Toure was given the Man of the Match award after their game against Hull City yesterday, and the Ivorian managed to embarrass teammate Kelechi Iheanacho during their joint interview.
Watch highlights: Hull City Vs Man City below.

The midfielder had earlier mentioned it was his son’s birthday on Boxing Day, and revealed the award would serve as present for his kid.
“Oh nice, thank you very much, I will give it to my boy then,” Toure said.

Iheanacho is then seen to make a move for the award, seemingly mistaking the ‘my boy’ phrase for a term of endearment from his teammate. Toure reiterates the award is for his kid, not Iheanacho, and is heard laughing along with the interviewer.

3 Things We Learned As Brazil Trashed Argentina 3-0

A reborn Brazilian side won Thursday night’s Superclássico das Américas in commanding style, condemning Argentina to a defeat that leaves them in real danger of failing to reach the next World Cup in Russia.
The home team took the lead through a stunner from their Liverpool star, Philippe Coutinho and never looked back as they dominated proceedings from start to finish.

Here are three things we learned.

Coutinholooks to have found his rhythm:

Coutinho’s opener against Argentina makes it five goals in seven games in a yellow jersey – proof that he is becoming a force to reckon with for both Club and country.

Argentina in Trouble waters
Argentina came into this game on a run of three games without a win, hoping that the return of Lionel Messi – who missed all of those matches – would be the catalyst for an upturn in fortunes. Unfortunately, that did not happen and now they remain in sixth, outside the automatic qualification spots and even the play-off place.

Allardyce Not To Face Police Action Over Corruption Scandal

Former manager of the English football team Sam Allardyce has received a letter from the Football Association that states he is not being investigated by the City of London Police.
Sam Allardyce
The 62-year-old left his role as Three Lions boss by mutual consent in September after a footage showing the former Sunderland boss offering advice to journalists disguised as foreign investors on how to circumvent rules on the third-party ownership of players was released by The Telegraph.

Allardyce said in a statement: ‘I welcome today’s confirmation from City of London Police that I will not be the subject of a police investigation.

‘I was always confident that this would be the case as there was no evidence against me. I now ask that the Football Association deals with this matter as quickly as possible.

‘I would like to thank my friends and family who have stood by me during this difficult period. The position of England head coach is the pinnacle of any English manager’s career and it was my dream job.

‘While I am sad that my tenure came to an end early, I am nonetheless proud to have been chosen to manage the England football team and hope that today’s confirmation from the police will give me the opportunity to move on.’

Widely considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter, he was pulled from a July bout against Daniel Cormier shortly after news about the positive drug test.

Exclusive Interview with Okocha on his Old Man Cleaner Disguise

If I were to ever interview Jay-Jay Okocha, one of my top five questions would most likely be “Ever wondered how it would feel like to be invisible for a day?” Well… after Okocha’s disguise as an old man, I have my answer!

No one cared or as much as looked his way as he went about his ‘duty’ as a trash collector. Eventually Jay-Jay Okocha revealed his true identity and jaws dropped everywhere… mine included. Hehe…

So I’m sure everyone has seen his master of disguise video. What you haven’t seen however Okocha is narrating his “ordeal” at the 2016 Copa Coca-Cola finals, where he had gone to motivate the young players and fans.

Trust me to have the exclusive interview for your viewing pleasure! Click here to watch!

Oh… and if you enjoy watching facebook videos as much as I do, click here now to watch the Okocha video that has gathered over 1 million views on Facebook and has everyone talking.

Kevin de Bruyne Says Mourinho Was Wrong About Him

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has shared his thoughts concerning his time with Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

The 25-year-old believes his performances for City this season have laid waste to the criticism from his former manager.

De Bruyne told the Daily Mail, “I couldn’t say anything before as I wasn’t playing. If he says something to the press they are going to believe it because at that moment it was the only thing they had to listen to—the only evidence there was.

“But I don’t think I am like he said. I always want to play. I have played hundreds of times in my career and I am only 25. So I think I have answered it quite well.

“At the time at Chelsea, I had already many, many games under my belt. I didn’t feel I was like a normal 20-year-old because I had already played for years in Belgium and then on loan from Chelsea in Germany.”

The Belgian returned from a loan spell in the Bundesliga when Mourinho took over at Stamford Bridge in 2013, but struggled to get a start and moved to get first-team football.

He was sold to Wolfsburg for £18 million but later joined City just a year-and-a-half after for £55 million in the summer transfer window of 2015.

“I have no problem with Jose,” he added. “In some ways it was a good experience. It’s the only experience of not really playing and it gave me another aspect, to realise how to conduct yourself.

“I learned a lot about myself and I am happy with the decision I made to move on.”

City and United go head-to-head in the EFL cup on Wednesday. This is the second time they face each other this season. The first ended 2-1 to City in the English premiership.

Klitschko: I’m Not Quitting Boxing Just Yet

Former world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko says he is not contemplating retirement despite having seen three title bouts fall through this year.

“I’ve never thought about stopping, not once, after the defeat and losing my belts,” Klitschko, who lost his IBF, WBO and WBA titles to Tyson Fury last November, told German daily Bild.

“As long as I can perform in the ring, am fit and motivated, I’ll keep going.

“I want to box in March or April against IBF world champion Anthony Joshua.
“That’ll be the biggest heavyweight fight for years and hopefully it’ll be for three titles.”

Hamburg-based Klitschko, who turns 41 next March, has endured a frustrating 2016.

His rematch against Fury had been set for July 9, only for an injury to force the British fighter out.

Fury then pulled out of a second bout scheduled for this Saturday as he battles depression.

Earlier this month, Fury’s licence to box was suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Fury has vacated the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) titles he still held to focus on his recovery.

Klitschko had planned to fight on December 10 against Britain’s Joshua, who holds the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt, but both camps say the fight will now not take place.

The Ukrainian has picked up a calf injury and the WBA has not confirmed whether the vacant belt would be on the line.

But Klitschko should meet Joshua in March or April next year.

“That (the calf injury) isn’t the reason why I won’t fight again this year,” Klitschko said.

His manager Bernd Boente said they were simply running out of time to get the Joshua fight set up for December 10.

“For the planned date, we’re simply out of time,” said Boente.

“Fight contracts would have to be negotiated, tickets sold and the TV partners needed to publicise the fight accordingly.”

But Klitschko is determined to fight again.

“There will be a couple of big, spectacular fights with me in the ring,” he added.

Mourinho Says World Record Signing Pogba Would Make An Excellent Center Back

These are early days but Manchester United’s world record signing, Paul Pogba has not yet shown any sign of beginning to repay his massive 89 million transfer fee.

It has not helped that United head coach, Jose Mourinho seems unsure of which position is a perfect fit for the Frenchman.
Mourinho has dismissed comments on his underperformance but admitted that the player would excel in a new role.

“He can play in so many positions. The problem is not the position. The problem is not the tactical system.

“The problem is, in my opinion, somebody that comes from a different style of football and needs this time to be at his best level in football that is really difficult to play, especially for midfield players.”

He added: “I think it is really difficult to play or adapt from different realities, but he is a phenomenal player. He has unbelievable potential.

“He has years and years to develop his game, so that expectation and investment from the club is based on that — a super player for the next seven or eight years.”

“With the quality of his pass, with his aerial game, with his agility in such a big body, for his defensive side of the game, coming from the back with the ball, he would be a phenomenal central defender, too,” he said.

Enugu Rangers to get LMC’s N40m prize money

* MFM must beat FC Ifeanyi Ubah to survive, cries Onuwa

Aside getting the coveted Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) trophy, champions designate, Enugu Rangers, will also pockect a N40 million prize money from the Merit Award of the League Management Company (LMC).

Enugu Rangers need only a point to take the crown no matter what happens in Uyo, where their closest rivals, Rivers United of Port Harcourt, will meet Akwa United on the final day of the league.

The big prize money is from a total of N200m pool set aside by the LMC as reward for final position on the league table at the end of the season on Sunday.

Last season, the highest payout from the Merit Award, which went to Enyimba of Aba, was N30 million from a total pool of N150 million and this year’s figure of N200 million represents an increase of 25 per cent.

According to the LMC, the Merit Award pool has been witnessing an annual progression from N50m in 2012/13 to N75m in 2013/14 season and now N200m. The top three Clubs on the final table usually received the chunk of the Merit Award, which supports the clubs financially in their preparation for the CAF Club competitions the next season.

According to figures released by the LMC, the champions would have received a minimum of N90m in all direct payments for the 2016 season, including the Basic Award, which comprises a pool of funds shared equally amongst all the 20 participating clubs, the Merit award paid to clubs based on their final position on the table, the Football Development and the Bonus award, which is paid to clubs based on performances, including incentives for improving match attendance, away wins/draw, fielding players under the age of 18 and hosting live broadcast matches.

The lowest placed team in the NPFL this season would thus have received up to N55m in direct payments from the LMC from all payment Centres.

A statement from the LMC explained, “in addition to the direct payments, clubs also benefit from other indirect payments such as free registration of players and officials, free insurance, payment of match officials’ indemnities and hotel accommodation as well as sponsored seminars and other engagements funded by the LMC.”

Rangers are three points ahead of Rivers United with the Flying Antelopes hosting El-Kanemi Warriors at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium now called The Cathedral by Enugu fans.

They need a point to guarantee the title while Rivers United go hunting for three points in Uyo against Akwa United. The Port Harcourt side will seek to win big while hoping that Rangers will falter against their visitors.

Meanwhile, Mountain of Fire and Miracle Football Club (MFM FC) midfielder, Onuwa Chukwuka, has described this weekend’s Match Day 38 clash with FC IfeanyiUbah as a career defining match for players of the Lagos-based team. MFM FC hosts the Anambra Warriors at the Agege Stadium in a match the outcome will impact both teams either way. MFM FC must win and hope that results in Jos and Umuahia goes negative for rival relegation threatened sides, Heartland of Owerri and Abia Warriors. On the other hand FC IfeanyiUbah needs the result to play on the continent. .

Ronaldo back in Portugal squad after injury

Cristiano Ronaldo was named in the Portugal squad Thursday after recovering from a knee injury that wrecked his Euro 2016 final and is expected to start in the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and the Faroe Islands.

The European champions need the Real Madrid forward to start firing immediately after they suffered a 2-0 away defeat to Switzerland earlier this month to sit bottom of Group B after one game.

“This group is stronger of course with Cristiano Ronaldo in it, but also because all the other players have had more playing time (since the early season loss),” coach Fernando Santos said.

Ronaldo, 31, missed the beginning of the La Liga season after two months out but scored minutes after returning to action.

However, he was left fuming last weekend after Real coach Zinedine Zidane subbed him for the final 20 minutes of the 2-2 Spanish league draw at Las Palmas.

Key midfielders Renato Sanches of Bayern Munich and Andre Gomes of Barcelona, as well as goalkeeper Anthony Lopes (Lyon), all return after they were forced to pull out of the Switzerland clash with injury.

Portugal host Andorra on October 7 and travel to the Faroe Islands three days later.

Portugal squad:

Goalkeepers: Rui Patricio (Sporting), Anthony Lopes (Lyon/FRA), Marafona (Braga);

Defenders: Antunes (Dynamo Kiev/UKR), Bruno Alves (Cagliari/ITA), Cedric Soares (Southampton/ENG), Jose Fonte (Southampton/ENG), Joao Cancelo (Valencia/ESP), Pepe (Real Madrid/ESP), Raphael Guerreiro (Dortmund/GER);

Midfielders: Adrien Silva (Sporting), William Carvalho (Sporting), Andre Gomes (Barcelona/ESP), Danilo Pereira (FC Porto), Joao Mario (Inter Milan/ITA), Joao Moutinho (Monaco/FRA), Renato Sanches (Bayern/GER)

Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid/ESP), Andre Silva (FC Porto), Bernardo Silva (Monaco/FRA), Eder (Lille/FRA), Gelson Martins (Sporting), Nani (Valencia/ESP), Ricardo Quaresma (Besiktas/TUR)

Wenger coy over England links

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to completely rule out accepting a potential offer to take charge of England at the end of the season.

Wenger has been linked with the England job following the Football Association’s decision to part company with Sam Allardyce on Tuesday.

Quizzed on possible England interest after Wednesday’s 2-0 Champions League win over Basel, Wenger stopped short of confirming he would snub an FA approach.

Allardyce’s self-inflicted exit after his controversial comments to undercover reporters has left the FA searching for a new boss and they have appointed England Under-21 coach Gareth Southgate as interim manager to buy them time.

Southgate will pick the team for England’s remaining four matches this year and could be persuaded to remain in charge until the end of the season if there was a chance to hire a top-class boss like Wenger.

Wenger, who is this week celebrating 20 years with the Gunners, underlined his commitment to Arsenal, but also said his future was only tied to the north Londoners until the end of the season.

Asked if he was flattered to be linked with the job, Wenger said: “Of course, but my priority has always been this club and until the end of this season I am here.

“I’m completely focused on this club. Nothing will change on that.

“It (Allardyce leaving) was a huge surprise. Who could have predicted that 48 hours ago? Nobody…”

Wenger traditionally operates on a year-to-year basis these days and only decides whether he wants to continue as Arsenal’s manager late in each season.

That approach gives a little hope to the FA if they make Wenger their top target and he answered with a nod and a smile when asked if he knew the words to the English national anthem.

But for now the Frenchman, who years ago revealed he had once rejected an offer to manage England, is fully focused on maintaining Arsenal’s encouraging progress after they extended their unbeaten run to eight games.

“That is not decided,” Wenger said of his long-term plans.

“I said my priority was always Arsenal football club. I have to decide how well I do until the end of the season.”

– Swashbuckling –
If Wenger ever did take charge of England, he would be reunited with the player who inspired Wednesday’s swashbuckling display.

Just months after his career appeared in permanent decline, Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is enjoying a purple patch.

Walcott was hardly used towards the end of last season after a dismal campaign and was left out of England’s Euro 2016 squad.

However, showdown talks with Wenger gave him renewed focus and he has been one of Arsenal’s best players so far this season.

“We assessed where he stood and decided what needed to be added to his game. 95 percent was up to him,” Wenger said.

“The most important thing comes from the player himself. Top quality people assess performances in an objective way.

“Then you have to respond to what you see. At the moment, he is doing that well.”

After routing Chelsea 3-0 in the Premier League on Saturday and putting Basel to the sword five days later, Arsenal are enjoying a long-awaited renaissance, but Wenger insists it is too soon to start talking of his team as potential European champions.

“Yes it’s very much too early,” Wenger said. “We were a bit edgy at home for a few games but now we look to be improving.

“It looks like the team has interesting potential. We have to be ambitious, keep our feet on the ground and continue to develop.”

Atletico hit new heights in latest Bayern humbling says Simeone

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone hailed his side’s display as one of the best in his hugely successful five-year reign in charge as Yannick Carrasco inflicted another 1-0 defeat for Bayern Munich at the Vicente Calderon.

Simeone’s men also beat Bayern at home in April on their way to a second Champions League final in three years.

And the Argentine lauded Atletico’s tactical discipline as they secured an incredible 15th clean sheet and 14th win in 18 home Champions League games under Simeone.

“I feel so proud to be the coach of this team,” said Simeone.

“I liked everything today. We pressed high, took advantage of spaces on the counter-attack and played with intensity for 90 minutes which is very difficult to do against one of the best teams in the world.

“Tactically, the team interpreted the game fantastically.

“It was one of the best performances in my time at Atletico Madrid.”

Carrasco fired home the winner 10 minutes before half-time after Jan Oblak had denied Thomas Muller with a stunning save early on with Bayern’s best effort.

Atletico could even afford to see top scorer Antoine Griezmann smash a penalty off the crossbar seven minutes from time.

Griezmann has now missed four of six penalties he has taken for Atletico, including crucially in defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

However, Simeone insisted the Frenchman will remain on spot-kick duty.

“He missed a penalty like (Diego) Maradona, (Lionel) Messi, (Michel) Platini, Zico, all the best players in the world,” added Simeone.

“He will keep taking them. He has incredible personality.

“He did 1000 things tonight that keep putting him amongst the best forwards in the world.”

Griezmann replied with glowing words for Simeone’s importance in his progression since joining from Real Sociedad just over two years ago.

“He has been very important for me because he has made me progress. I know I still have a lot to learn from him and I hope to continue like that,” said the Frenchman

“It is still frustrating to miss the penalty, but it won’t be the last time I miss a chance”

Defeat was Bayern’s first since Carlo Ancelotti replaced Pep Guardiola in charge after a perfect eight wins from eight before the former Real coach returned to Madrid.

However, it was a familiar story for Bayern, as having been knocked out by Spanish sides for the past three seasons in the Champions League, they failed to score on Spanish soil for the fourth consecutive trip.

“Atletico showed a killer instinct tonight, and we did not,” said goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

“We will have another chance to beat them in Munich.”

Top spot in Group D is likely to come down to that meeting between the sides on December 6 as both won their opening games against FC Rostov and PSV Eindhoven.

And Arjen Robben insists Bayern must find away to counteract the “unpleasant” tactics used by Atletico.

“That is a big game for the group phase. Last season it was a semi-final and you could see why,” said the Dutch winger.

“They have a very unpleasant team to play against.

“We started really well. The first 15, 20 minutes were really good. We were aggressive and had chances, which you have to use in a game like that.

“We have to learn from this and keep going.”

Amapakabo Wants Rangers To Hold On To Celebration

Enugu Rangers head coach, Imama Amapakabo, wants his team to hold to their celebrations despite being just a point away from becoming champions in the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

The Flying Antelopes recorded an impressive 2-1 win over relegated, Ikorodu United on Sunday in Abeokuta to boost the chances of winning their seventh top-flight title.

Amapakabo told Channels Television that although the side are close to winning the title they still have to win the last day match against El Kanemi Warriors to be properly crowned the undisputed champions.

Enugu Rangers are top on the league table with  60 points; three ahead of closest challengers, Rivers United with a game to play.

Remo Stars Promoted

Meanwhile, coach of Remo Stars, Nduka Ugbade says his side are not carried away after gaining promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League next season.

Coach Ugbade told Channels Television that the team would rather concentrate on their last league game against UNICEM Rovers at home.

No matter the outcome of the game, Remo Stars are heading to the NPFL for the first time, having recorded an unassailable 28 points in their Division B1 of the NNL.
But Ugbade says they plan to finish a successful campaign on a high in front of their fans in Ijebu-Ode to justify the investment of club owner, Kunle Soname.

Toure Criticises FIFA’s Disbandment Of Anti-racism Taskforce

The decision by the world’s football governing body, FIFA to scrap its anti-racism taskforce has triggered reactions from various stakeholders in the world of sports.

One of those who believed the development was an unacceptable one was four-time African Best Player, Yaya Toure.

The former Ivorian international noted that players and fans might be the ones to suffer the decision.

“Are FIFA being complacent ahead of a World Cup in Russia? It will be the fans and players that suffer if FIFA do not get this right.

“When I received the letter telling me the FIFA taskforce was to be discontinued, I was very disappointed.

“The letter listed the good work that had been carried out as a result of the taskforce’s advice and recommendations.

“So my question is, after failing to deal with racism sufficiently for decades, why stop when something is beginning to work?” BBC quoted disappointed Toure as saying.

The Manchester City star has been racially abused in Russia by CSKA Moscow fans in October 2013.

FIFA Defends Decision

The football body defended its decision to scrap an anti-racism taskforce, saying it had completed the work it set out to do.

FIFA Taskforce Against Racism and Discrimination was set up in 2013 to develop recommendations for tackling the issue.

Some other critics have also questioned the dismantling of the group, saying ‘racism is ongoing’.

However, FIFA General Secretary, Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura, insisted that the body had a specific mandate, which it had fully fulfilled.
