American mixed martial artist and interim Light Heavyweight Champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Jon Jones, has been suspended for a year after failing a drug test.
The 29-year-old was banned after estrogen-blocking substances clomiphene and Letrozol were detected in his body.
Reports claim the substances were found due to his ingestion of a sexual performance enhancement drug, Cialis.
Jones appealed against his suspension but was denied. He is to serve the doping ban until next July.
Widely considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter, he was pulled from a July bout against Daniel Cormier shortly after news about the positive drug test.
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency , which handles UFC testing, declared Jones ineligible. He took the case to arbitration and that panel delivered the maximum one-year suspension, saying Jones’ “degree of fault verged on the reckless.”
