Brendan Rodgers has been given the green light on an £8m bid for FC Basel’s Mohamed Salah, following the return of Liverpool’s owners into Anfield this weekend.
This could bring one of the longest running transfer sagas of recent years to an end, but could also spell trouble for the likes of Raheem Stirling at Liverpool, who could lose his place on the starting line-up.
The midfielder has been valued at £12 million and Rodgers is hopeful negotiation will bring the valuation lower. The club have been planning a move for the Egyptian since the January transfer window opened.
Ideally, Rodgers should be thinking of adding a defender to his squad following the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday that emphasized the major lingering deficiencies at the back.
Salah, 21, is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal who shone in the Champions League, scoring in the group stages against Chelsea.
