Reports say at least eight people, have been killed after members of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, attacked three villages in Borno state, north-east Nigeria and hoisted their flag there.
According to the BBC, the villages which are said to be near Chibok town, from where the militants captured more than 200 schoolgirls in April 2014, are Kubirivour, Boftari and Kuburmbalah.
However, the Nigerian Army has debunked the report.
In a text message to Channels Television following a request for response by the Army, the spokesman of the Army, Colonel Sani Usman described the report as false.
The Nigerian military and the multi-national joint task force have said that troops have almost routed the insurgents from their stronghold in the north east and the Lake Chad area.
But it is reported that the militants remain in control of some villages along the Nigeria-Niger border.
