Amaechi in Fresh Trouble: Buhari Orders EFCC to Investigate $757 Million Theft Allegation

President Mohammadu Buhari has secretly asked the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately investigate and prosecute a former governor of Rivers State who is also the Minister for Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, over the $757 million (N80 billion Naira) that was allegedly found in his Bancorp Bank account in the United States of America.
It would be recalled that Mr. Rotimi Amaechi recently wrote to Bancorp Bank in Minnesota in the United States and claimed that the said $757 million Dollars domiciled in an account in his name was authorized by him in error from a Rivers State Government Account with Access Bank Plc.
But a source at the Presidency told Nigerian Concord Newspapers that President Buhari had personally called Amaechi several times to explain his roles In the alleged laundering.
According to the source, Mr. Amaechi’s explanation didn’t go down well with Buhari who vowed to ensure that he gets to the truth of the matter.
It was gathered that the president this morning instructed the EFCC’s chairman, Mr. Magu, to secretly investigate Amaechi’s role and bring him to justice immediately his involvement is confirmed.
Buhari’s action was a follow up to a letter that the bank wrote to the Presidency that it was ready to repatriate the said funds to Nigeria.
