Security was beefedup yesterday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, as President Goodluck Jonathan visited to commission the newly built Air Force Comprehensive School.

Journalists were barred from the venue by security agencies.

Reporters, who thronged the venue after properly identifying themselves, were confined into a classroom for two hours by one Emmanuel Anita, who identified himself as a presidential aide and bearing a tag which bore the designation Senior Personal Assistant, State House, Abuja According to Anita, the enforcement of stringent security measures were meant to enhance smooth commissioning of the project.

According to Anita, only journalists on the President’s entourage were allowed into the precinct of the event. Journalists from the various media organisations were ordered to leave the venue.

Yola residents, however, decried the President’s visit, claiming that it restricted their movements as all roads were blocked by security agents preventing them to go about their normal daily activities.
