The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is appealing to the Federal Government to beef up security, especially at work places, in the wake of the recent spate of violence and attacks of the Boko Haram sect.

Addressing reporters in Abuja on Monday, ahead of the 2014 May Day celebration, the Vice President of the NLC, Comrade Lucy Offiong, warned that the attacks was affecting worker’s psyche and threatening productivity.

While condemning the Nyanya Motor Park bomb blast, which affected some workers and the abduction of over 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno State, the NLC is also appealing to Nigerians to provide information to security operatives.

“The current siege in some parts of the country has had implications for both Nigerian Economy and freedom to life and also the right to work. It has not only threatened lives and property but also productivity, as workers now find it hard to go to work. When they do, they go to work with fear.

“While we were still in mourning some school girls were abducted in Chibok. The fate of the school girls abducted by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect represents the future of our dear country. If the girls’ whereabouts cannot be traced, then the universal belief that our younger ones will grow to do better than what the older ones are doing is hollow and hopeless,” she said.

Security agencies had called for information to help them tackle insurgency especially in the north eastern part of the nation.
