Immigration tragedy: Jonathan sets up committee to conduct fresh test

Following the cancellation of the tragic recruitment into the Nigeria Immigration Service, penultimate Saturday, President Goodluck Jonathan Wednesday approved the composition of a Special Committee to assist in reconducting the exercise. 

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

According to the statement the committee would be chaired by the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission. Other members of the committee are the heads of: the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC; Federal Fire Service; Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigeria Prisons Board.

.Others include representatives of: the Head of Civil Service of the Federation; the Commandant-General NSCDC; Comtroller, Prison Service; the Corp Marshal, Federal Roads Safety Commission; Director-General, Department of State Service DSS and the Permanent Secretary, incharge of Special Duties at the Office of SGF who will serve as Secretary.

The Terms of Reference for the Committee are as follows: To liaise with the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board and confirm the actual number of personnel to be recruited; To assist the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board by re-advertising the recruitment into the NIS with a view to starting the recruitment process afresh; To assist the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board by processing the applications, short listing potential candidates and conducting the necessary interviews for the purpose of the recruitment exercise; To assist the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and Prisons Board by following all relevant laws, public service rules and guidelines, to determine successful applicants and announce their appointment into the NIS.
