There was no money in the vice-presidential wallet when the outspoken Biden opened it up to pay for lunch on Thursday.
A staffer had to lend money to Vice President Joe Biden so he could pay for the lunch he ordered.
Joe Biden may have to look into raising his own debt ceiling.
During a midday lunch run Thursday to buy sandwiches, the gaffe-prone Vice President came up short for the bill and had to borrow the difference from a staffer.
Biden had stopped by the new Washington, D.C. location of Capriotti’s, a Delaware-based deli and a vice-presidential favorite to order a pile of food for himself and President Obama.
Vice President Joe Biden was all smiles after leaving the restaurant. He even opined on the importance of hot peppers.

But when the $56.25 bill arrived at the order counter, Biden opened up his wallet, only to realize that nation’s second-in-command billfold was empty.
An employee at the restaurant offered the food on the house, but Biden refused the generous pitch, explaining that in his home state, you put your money where your mouth is.
Vice President Joe Biden was only able to pay for the food after a staffer lent him the money.
“No no no, I’m not taking it,” he said. “In Delaware, you pay. It’s simple.”
