Christians/Muslims Segregation In Kaduna Portends Grave Danger In Future, Says Gov. Yero

Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State yesterday lamented the lack of unity between Christians and Muslims in the state and pleaded with traditional rulers to come up with modalities that will unite the people.

Gov. Yero said the division of the state into Muslims and Christian communities portends future danger if not addressed.

The governor, who made this known at a two day workshop organized for district heads in the state, called on Muslims and Christians to associate with one another.

“The segmentation of Muslims and Christians communities is not helping matters; in fact, it has degenerated to the extent that our children do not attend the same school any longer. This portends danger in future because our children will not have the opportunity to associate with their peers from other faiths,” Yero said.

He added: “Most of the past crises in the state were attached to tribal and religious sentiments. Such crises we believe can be solved through efforts by stakeholders”.

Earlier in his remarks, chairman of Kaduna State council of emirs/chiefs and Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris said as traditional leaders, they have a greater responsibility of ensuring peace and security in the state.

He, therefore, charged the district heads to always pay attention to what is happening around them and report to authorities.
