One of the biggest tech collaboration has officially commenced with Amazon, Facebook, Google’s DeepMind division, IBM, and Microsoft to fund a new organization called the Partnership on Artificial Intelligence to Benefit People and Society.

According to Alanturing – “Artificial Intelligence (AI) is usually defined as the science of making computers do things that require intelligence when done by humans. AI has had some success in limited, or simplified, domains.”

Partnership on AI will support related research and recommend best practices in ethics, transparency and privacy when it comes to artificial intelligence studies. The project also aims to create an open platform where researchers and major players in the industry can communicate.

The official website for the project explains as follows: “We believe that artificial intelligence technologies hold great promise for raising the quality of people’s lives and can be leveraged to help humanity address important global challenges such as climate change, food, inequality, health, and education.”

The 5 tech gaints have seperately made a mark on AI project for example: IBM, has Watson, while Google has DeepMind, which you probably recognize as the the team behind AlphaGo. Amazon has Alexa, the voice assistance that’s loaded onto its Echo speakers, while Microsoft has Cortana and a whole bunch of chatbot projects. Finally, Facebook, depends on artificial intelligence for many of its features, including face recognition and its News Feed.

Facebook’s director of AI Yann LeCun said in a press briefing dedicated to the new project: “Every new technology brings transformation, and transformation sometimes also causes fear in people who don’t understand the transformation…one of the purposes of this group is really to explain and communicate the capabilities of AI, specifically the dangers and the basic ethical questions.”

Francesca Rossi representing IBM’s also stated: “This partnership will provide consumer and industrial users of cognitive systems a vital voice in the advancement of the defining technology of this century – one that will foster collaboration between people and machines to solve some of the world’s most enduring problems – in a way that is both trustworthy and beneficial.”

We hope the collaboration through achieves its aim, and reduce dangers in health sector, provide more ease with gadgets and the like. Feel free to comment on what you think about the collaboration.
