Arsenal on Monday has announced that Puma will become its official kits supplier beginning from July 1, 2014.
The deal which is worth more than 30 million pounds ($49.5 million) a year to the Premier League leaders, sees the Germany company oust Nike who has been business partners with the Gunners in last 20 years.
Apart from supplying kits, Puma has also acquired wide-ranging licensing rights to develop other Arsenal branded merchandise on a global basis. The new commercial partnership represents the biggest deal in PUMA and Arsenal’s history.
“Arsenal has been a key strategic target for PUMA for a number of years now. Through a clear commercial vision, well-defined sports marketing strategy and a relentless enthusiasm within the PUMA organisation, we’re proud to have signed this partnership with a truly global football club, Bjoern Gulden was quoted as saying on Arsenal website.
Gulden hopes their relationship with the Gunners will reinforce Puma’s credibility as a global sports brand.
Replying Ivan Gazidis, chief executive officer at Arsenal said the club was excited to partner with Puma. He also hoped it would help the team progress on and off the pitch. Puma has also signed a deal with 2013 UEFA Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund
