Saraki must go, impeachment plans very much alive – Ndume

Sen. Ali Ndume (APC-Borno) has accused Senate President Bukola Saraki of personalising the chamber, insisting that plans to impeach him is much alive.
Ndume said at a Forum of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday, that he would not be bought over with his appointment as Chairman, Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service.
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume

Ndume is one of the APC lawmakers that has insisted that Saraki must vacate his seat following his defection from the party to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

He had a running battle with Saraki following his supposed support for the Executive against decisions of the National Assembly. Ndume lost his seat as Leader of the Senate and was suspended for six legislative months but the courts later nullified the suspension and declared it illegal.

He was also stripped of his position as Chairman Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Ndume said he regretted supporting Saraki to emerge as President of the Senate, alleging that he was running the affairs of the senate like a private business.

“Saraki is not supposed to give out committees because they do not belong to him. “He has personalised the senate and he is becoming like the senators’ president not Senate president. “The selection committee is the one with the mandate to give out committees. The committees do not belong to Saraki, ” he said.
The lawmaker said he would not be carried away by the position, stressing that it was not a big deal. According to him, he does not need to head any committee to provide service to the people as a senator.(NAN)

Nigeria more corrupt under Buhari than me – Jonathan

Jonnathan Ebele

Former President Goodluck Jonathan as formally responded to the infamous claim that he tended to downplay raging corruption in his administration by boldly claiming that ‘stealing is not corruption’.
But in dispelling the claim, Jonathan claimed that corruption was more prevalent under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration than under him and dismissed the current anti-corruption fight as mere media show. The former president boasted: “It is important to note that despite the many sensational stories, dramatic arrests, seizures and accusations, many of them false, since I left office, the fact remains that Nigeria has not made any improvement on TI Corruption Perception Index since 2014. “In fact, the 2017 CPI released in 2018 by TI places Nigeria as number 148, a retrogression in which the nation went 12 place backward. In other words, Nigeria is more corrupt in 2017 than it was when I handed over to Buhari administration in 2015. “Some people may be misled with smoke and mirrors but the TI Corruption Perception Index relies on unsentimental facts and figures,” he submitted in this book, which seeks to set the records of his administration straight and debunk false narratives by commentators against his tenure. Scores his administration high on corruption fight and thump up by TI The former president paid glowing tributes to the policies and measures his administration conceived and implemented to check corruption and financial leakages and raised government revenue during his time. He pointed to the introduction of the Electronic Wallet Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, which effectively checkmated fertiliser scam and save the country up to $192 million in the first year of its application in 2012. He also praised his administration for the development and implementation of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, IPPIS, which enabled the government to flush out 50,000 ghost federal workers and saved the country N15 billion monthly. Jonathan claimed that it was through the effective implementation of the anti-corruption measures by his administration that in 2014 that brought positive results to Nigeria and made it to receive the best ever ranking in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, which ranked Nigeria 136th out of the 144 countries ranked. “This was an improvement from the nation’s previous position of 144th in 2013, 139th in 2012 and 143rd in 2011,” Jonathan noted. Jonathan clarified that he never said that stealing is not corruption, adding that what he actually said and meant was twisted out of context by his enemies just to score political mileage and bring down his administration. Jonathan said, “They claim that I once said that ‘stealing is not corruption’. This is not true. Following the constant stigmatisation of Nigeria as corrupt, I invited the leadership of the legislature and the judiciary to a meeting. “In attendance were the Senate President and his deputy, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and his deputy, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the President of the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and six states’ Chief Judges from the six geopolitical zones. Also invited were heads of the two anti-corruption agencies, viz the chairman of the EFCC and the ICPC and I presided over the meeting. “My thinking was that the head of the executive arm of government alone could not effectively eradicate the scourge of corruption, hence the need for that meeting. I personally appealed to them and argued that an all-inclusive approach could bring about tangible successes in the anti-corruption fight. “The judiciary, the legislature and the executive arms of government needed to join forces if we were to end the theft of public resources and stop corruption,” the former president explained. Jonathan said it was on the strength of his presentation that the former CJN, Justice Dahiru Musdaphar, acknowledged that he was of the same opinion. According to Jonathan, the CJN told him that he had also discovered after going through case files in the Supreme Court nearly all cases, which should have been properly labelled as ‘crimes of stealing’ and the individuals involved charged as such, were simply tagged by the prosecutors as ‘corruption’. Jonathan said, “It was on the strength of the CJN’s submission that I expounded to say that we should stop calling a spade an agricultural implement. Corruption does not fully capture the act of stealing. A person can indeed be corrupt without stealing a dime. “Those who are incapable of comprehending this elevated thought and the mischievous crowd, go about till date, that I said ‘stealing is not corruption’. They never bothered to even check the context in which I spoke. If you ask many of those clinging to that falsehood and mouthing the malicious misrepresentation, to quote where I said it, they will tell you ‘they only heard’. “Let me say categorically that I have never said that stealing is good and that people should steal; neither did the CJN. Stealing is stealing ad instead of calling it corruption, let us call the thief by his proper name and not use a blanket word like corruption.

He argues: “Corruption encompasses many things.” Quoting Transparency International, Jonathan said: “Corruption is defined as the ‘abuse of entrusted power for private gain. “We must not lump everything together and say stealing is corruption. We must isolate stealing and make it as plain as day because Nigerians hate thieves. I abhor jungle justice, but we have witnessed Nigerians show their hatred for suspected thieves by burning them alive.

"We Don't Want To Disobey UN Order, Biafrans Should Go With Only 5 Eastern State" - Buhari Begs Igbos, Moves To Sell Off FG Assets In Southeast

According facts emerging from a secret meeting held with Buhari and some Northern leaders early this month, he told the Northern leaders that there’s a serious pressure on him, to obey the UN Charter on self determination, and release Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally, and that he should stop violating his fundamental human rights alongside rights of other Biafra agitators held in different Nigerian jails, by also releasing them unconditionally, as well as allow for a UN monitored referendum to test if the people of Biafra wish to continue with Nigeria or not.

He also told them that international community said that they have enough evidence that him (Buhari) and his government is violating the fundamental human rights of Biafrans by using brutal force on Biafrans during peaceful protests and rallies.

He also told the Northern leaders that if nothing is done right now, that one day, the North will wake up and lose all the assets of Nigeria to Biafra, that there may soon be a UN statement on issue of Biafra and the violation of their fundamental human rights, which may result to a call for Biafra referendum.

According to the source, that after their deliberations, Buhari told the Northern leaders that he will only allow Biafra to go on one condition, and that the condition according to him, is that the oil producing area of Niger Delta will be carved out and allowed to remain in Nigeria. Then, only the Igbo speaking states of South East will be allowed to go as Biafra.

Also, that all the national assets such as refineries, sea ports, airports, telecomm, etc, belonging to federal government, especially those located within the Biafran territory, must be completely sold off before the referendum will be allow to take place.

So, before the Biafra referendum will come, expect that all the critical assets of federal government within the Biafra territory are going to be sold off. This is the latest plan of Buhari. One wonders if this was indeed one of the plans that led to negotiations to sell off some FG assets, perhaps only those located in Biafran region of the country.

From this information, it is crystal clear that the only thing binding the leadership of the North to one Nigeria is the oil in the Niger Delta region. So, this close discussion will open a lot issues about what Nnamdi Kanu and many Biafrans have said all along that oil is the issue and not the interest of the people of Biafran region.

Now, the ball will be on the court of UN and international community to determine who wants to go or join the rest of Biafra by asking the will of the people of Biafran region to be fully expressed.

Another thing is that once these are done, subsequent negotiations will begin to take place and a lot more will be at stake for both parties. But if this report is really authentic as we could tell from the source of the information, then Nigeria is finally breaking up and Biafra will be a free republic of her own.

History will be made for generations to come. It is not going to be an easy task but a tedious one that will break hearts and pyschology of many on both sides of the divide. But a new chapter would be opened for two new countries that would thrive along side each other as neighbours and hopefully peaceful without rancour and strife.

Election: Nigerians react to Buhari’s non-submission of academic credentials to INEC

Nigerians and opposition leaders have been reacting to the news that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, did not submit his academic credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mr Buhari’s secondary school certificate controversy made the headlines in 2015. Mr Buhari has again not made it available in 2019, insisting his credentials are still with the military. Instead of submitting the credentials, Mr Buhari swore to an affidavit, wherein he told INEC they were with the military.

Many Nigerians, however, raised concerns about why President Buhari, as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, cannot ask the military to present the certificates or make copies for him.

Reacting to this, the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, via his Twitter handle “@officialKolaO said, “Integrity demands that you write to military authorities asking them to forward your credentials to INEC. Even @MBuhari followers are not prepared to accept NEPA Bill for WAEC in 2019. So, Mr President, Wey your certificate?”

The former media aide to past President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, said it is evidently clear that Mr Buhari does not have the certificate.

“@MBuhari again tells @INECNigeria his certificate are with the army. Who controls the army as Commander-in-Chief? Is it not Buhari? We‘ve seen the evidence of certificateless leadership. We won’t accept that excuse. Retweet to insist Buhari produces his certificate #RenosDarts”

A former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, in his reaction said: “Once again Buhari has refused to submit his WAEC certificate to INEC. Once again he says that it is with the military authorities. Even though he has been Commander in Chief for the last few years he has been unable to retrieve them. May God save Nigeria from this man.”

For Oluyemi Fasipe, who tweeted with the handle, @YemieFASH, “Buhari did not tender any academic record to become President, INEC conspired with APC to install a WAEC-LESS President. The whole world must see this, don’t stop retweeting. Cc: @BBCAfrica @CNN @AJStream @USEmbassyAbuja @UKinNigeria”

See the reactions of other Nigerians below.
“@AyeeshaMusa1
How did we get here Nigeria? How did we get this point where @MBuhari was elected @NGRPresident without a WAEC result, in a country (whose) total population’s literacy level is at 59.6% (male: 69.2%, female: 49.7% as at January 20, 2018)? How did we get here Nigeria(?)”

“@AbangMercy
So Buhari hasn’t been to any other school since he left the military? Why are we still looking for this? See, this is beyond me frankly & INEC allows this? If we haven’t found his certificate what should be done? Why does he keep telling the world his docs are with the military?

“No one will offer me a job if I keep telling them my certificate is with my first employer – it is not only silly but shows I have none and I haven’t made any efforts to get new documents or developed academically- this man is President and he still can’t find his certificate?

“We are allowing bad behaviour exhibited by the President and he’s allowed to take a walk while we keep hold others to a much higher expectations – Kemi Adeosun was thrown out over NYSC and your President has been presiding over Nigeria without any certificate but NEPA bill?”

“@adeyanjudeji
Our president does not have ordinary WAEC certificate in 2018. Even as President & C-in-C, he says he can’t retrieve his so-called certificate from the military. Does he think we are all fools? Things can’t just continue like this.”

“@AsiwajuOladimej
Last two year(s), around October, I was asked to submit my ORIGINAL certificate not even notification of result by my commission if not, my salary would be stopped. I went back to UNAD, paid 30k to get it. The President should go and get his WAEC certificate. Fuck excuse.”

BUHARI WANTS THE LAW SUSPENDED FOR HIS PERSONAL BENEFIT

Right after signing the “Not Too Young To Run” bill into law, President Buhari implored the youths not to run against him in 2019.
He said we should wait until 2023. Hear him: “Please, can I ask you to postpone your campaigns till after the 2019 elections!”

That was President Buhari at his typical. He wants the law suspended, to his personal benefit. That is how we have had the killing sprees, with impunity, by the Fulani herdsmen in the last two years.

But Nigerian youths should hear him carefully. His plea, instead of order, means Buhari recognises that the youths will decide his fate in 2019. It shows that he knows that our votes count. And he knows that he has neither earned our votes nor is he a match for our resolve.

We should be bold and we should believe in the power of our votes. In any case, the youthful and visionary Professor Kingsley Moghalu is running.

Only three months since the end of February when he publicly declared he will be running for President in 2019, Kingsley has won the hearts and minds of millions of Nigerians, and he continues to do so.

It is game over for Buhari and his brigade of entitled but visionless politicians.

U.S citizen arrested in Zimbabwe for ‘insulting’ Mugabe on Twitter

Martha O‘Donovan who works for Magamba TV, was arrested on Friday with her laptop seized for reportedly calling President Robert Mugabe a “Goblin” on Twitter, the first arrest since the creation of a Ministry of Cyber Security last month, her lawyers said.
Zimbabwean Human Rights Lawyers who defended Martha, said she was arrested for allegedly “undermining authority of or insulting the President”,  after tweeting about a “Goblin” whose wife and step-sons had imported a Rolls Royce, an apparent reference to 93-year-old Mugabe even though he was not named.
When contacted, Police spokeswoman Charity Charamba said she had no immediate information about the case,
as it was also gathered that Martha’s Twitter account was reportedly locked on Friday following her arrest by policemen who stormed her residence with a search warrant.
A quick check on her locked Twitter account, shows photograph on her home page referred to #ShutdownZimbabwe2016, a series of protests in 2016 that rattled Mugabe’s government and elicited a fierce crackdown on the streets and online.
Though the U.S Embassy is aware of Martha’s arrest, however Reuters reported that her Lawyer said if she’s convicted, she faces a maximum of one year in jail.

Actress Paz de la Huerta accuses Weinstein of r*pe

Actress Paz de la Huerta has accused Harvey Weinstein of defiling her twice in 2010, joining dozens of women who have levelled s*xual assault allegations against the disgraced Hollywood mogul.
The 33-year-old, known for her role in hit TV series “Boardwalk Empire”, described the alleged assaults, which police are investigating, to Vanity Fair magazine.
The first occurred when Weinstein demanded to come inside De la Huerta’s apartment after driving her home, she said.
“He pushed me onto the bed and his pants were down and he lifted up my skirt. I felt afraid… It wasn’t consensual,” she told the magazine.
De la Huerta said the second assault occurred about a month later when Weinstein showed up at her building despite her having asked him to leave her alone, and suggested talking about it in her apartment.
She had been drinking and “was in no state. I was so terrified of him… I did say no, and when he was on top of me I said, ‘I don’t want to do this,’” the actress said.
“He’s like a pig… he defiled me,” she said.
New York Police Department spokesman Sergeant Brendan Ryan told AFP that the department is “aware of the s*xual assault complaints” and is “actively investigating them.”
“The NYPD continues to work with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office on the case. The investigation is ongoing,” Ryan said.
Accounts of abuse by Weinstein that were published last month in The New York Times and The New Yorker encouraged others to speak out, unleashing a cascade of allegations of s*xual harassment and assault against leading figures in Hollywood and elsewhere.
