We Were Forced To Create HIV Virus To Wipe Off African Race - Dr. Robert Gallo

A site run by a friendly and reasonably honest woman I know recently reposted a text titled “The Man Who Created AIDS: Robert Gallo.” The text went super-viral, over 80,000 shares on Facebook alone. Once I read it, I was aghast at how much misinformation and how many scientifically illiterate statements were in the text and attached video.
I wrote her explaining my reasoning, and she immediately agreed to take down the text. It still exists on other, less responsible, sites.

Unfortunately, a large part of the damage has already been done, and that among other articles has helped foster the continued existence of a completely unfounded theory based primarily on not understanding what a patent is in molecular biology. A patent on Ebola or HIV is not the same as a patent on an engine.
Whereas the engine’s patent is reserving the production of that type of engine to the patent holder, a patent on HIV or Ebola is a patent meant to specify how the virus was isolated, how the genotype was determined, and what this consensus genotype is.

In biology, you can patent things you found to concretely identify that component, potentially for use in a more complex system later. Keep in mind that you can even patent seeds obtained from cross-pollination: the patent does not mean the species was genetically modified in a laboratory.

The same way a patent on cross-bred species does not mean it was created in a lab, a patent on a virus genome does NOT mean it was created in a lab. Robert Gallo first published his isolation and identification of HIV in 1984, and patented this in 1985. After older blood samples were then analysed in a search for this virus, it was then found in the past: it didn’t suddenly occur in the 1970s or 1980s.

Despite the claims of the article whose damage I am working to undo, the earliest samples of HIV positive blood did not originate from New York homosexuals from the 1970s, but instead date back to 1920s Congo.

The virus most certainly did not originate from biological weapons programs, which are only today becoming advanced enough that creating such a virus is even theoretically possible. They were most certainly not advanced enough in 1920, or even 1960, to create a synthetic retrovirus, which I might add, has still never actually been accomplished. One of the articles I saw blaming Gallo comically claims that chimps were supposedly deliberately infected and released in 1979, which somehow led to the virus occurring in New York in 1971.

The viral “Gallo did it” article that I convinced my friend to take down had an embedded video, where a man “explains” over dramatic music that HIV was created through “combining lymphoma, leukemia, and carcinoma viruses.” I literally burst out laughing, because none of what he listed was a retrovirus or even a virus, and cancer has literally nothing to do with HIV.

You could spend your entire life combining lymphomas, carcinomas, and leukemia, and you would still never end up with a retrovirus at the end.

All of these theories make very specific claims, without any evidence. They encourage me to believe that a man (who thinks cancers are viruses) has special knowledge and access to untold classified documents. To prove his point, the video displays extremely blurry documents that are barely legible beyond seeing Gallo’s name.

For all we know, these documents are completely fake, or actually completely harmless. We don’t know, because as is the norm in such articles or videos: no sources are supplied. Yes, the United States did and maybe still does have biological weapons programs. The Soviets did, and Russia still runs its “Vector” high-security lab, as well.

This is absolutely no indication that HIV is a bioweapon, especially considering the actual time-line of infections. There are even more reasons why Ebola is certainly not a bioweapon, but that is beyond the scope of this text.

Gallo was a scientist, and a researcher, and his position in the public eye is yet another reason to doubt him being an evil mastermind. There is no historical evidence actually implicating Gallo, or any others, in creating a HIV virus.

All of the historical and scientific evidence, as well as a general understanding of patents in science, point to a legitimate researcher, along with his peers, simply trying to identify understand a human illness. There may very well be one or more synthetic doomsday viruses sitting snugly or being worked on in undisclosed locations (or in BSL-4 labs), but HIV and Ebola are not examples of this.

10 Damning Revelations From The Latest Presidential Arms Audit Report

An investigative panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to audit procurement of arms by and for the Nigerian military between 2007 until he assumed office in 2015 submitted another interim report on Thursday.

The Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Nigerian Armed Forces completed the first of its piecemeal reports in November 2015 in which a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, was indicted for allegedly mismanaging over N13 billion budgeted for procurement of arms.

Mr. Buhari ordered immediate arrest of Mr. Dasuki as recommended by the 13-member committee and he had since remained in detention amid disputes about how he should be prosecuted.

In February 2016, the committee, which consists of individuals pooled from mainly military or security background, visited military facilities across the country to carry out a physical examination of military weaponry and equipment and verify if new deliveries were taken, how they were purchased and their quality.

The panel then found over a dozen former military chiefs culpable in fraudulent arms deal within the period under review.

A former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, and Adesola Amosu, a former Chief of Air Staff, were subsequently indicted. They are facing trial in various high courts.

The report submitted to President Buhari on Thursday is third in the series, and it uncovered how ex-political appointees, private individuals and former military chiefs, including two erstwhile Chiefs of Army Staff, were suspected culpable in alleged fraudulent diversion of funds meant for arms procurement.

Azubuike Ihejirika and Kenneth Minimah, who both served under President Goodluck Jonathan, were recommended for further investigation by the committee

Mr. Buhari was, however, criticised for allegedly doctoring the outcome of the latest report.

Critics said the panel indicted a close ally of Mr. Buhari and the current Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, but that the administration compelled the committee to have his name removed before publishing the report.

The government denied the allegations.

As supporters and opponents argued over the impact the alleged protection of Mr. Dambazau would have on Buhari government’s much-avowed zero-tolerance for corruption, PREMIUM TIMES looked at the 10 biggest revelations from the latest arms panel findings.

1) Receiving big to deliver little:

The committee, led by Jon Ode, a retired Air Vice Marshal, found that, “3 contracts with a total value of N5,940,000,000.00 were awarded to DYI Global Services Ltd and Doiyatec Comms Nig Ltd (owned by the same individuals) for the procurement of military hardware including 20 units of K-38 Twin Hull Boats and 6 units of 4 x 4 Ambulances fitted with radios.

“The Committee found that the 2 companies collected N5,103,500,000.00 representing 86% of the total value of the 3 contracts worth N5,940,000,000.00, but only performed to the tune of N2,992,183,705.31.”

2) Inconclusive delivery:

In another instance, 2 contracts were awarded to Baram International Nigeria Limited, amounting to N420,726,799.20 for the procurement of 53 Armoured Vehicles Spare Parts at the cost of N169,916,849.77 and that of Ballistic Vests, Night Vision Binoculars and 3 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles at the cost of N250,809,949.50. Sadly, the contract worth N169,916,849.77 with 90 days completion time is yet to be completed 5 years after.

3) ‘International embarrassment’:

Similarly, between 29 April 2005 and 19 October 2010, the MOD (Ministry of Defence) awarded 2 contracts to Progress Limited for the supply of 42 units of BTR-3U Armoured Personnel Carriers and spare parts for the Nigerian Army.

However, neither the MOD nor the NA could provide the contract agreements to ascertain the cost of the APCs. Although 26 of the APCs were delivered in 2007 and immediately deployed for Peace Keeping Operations in Sudan, the APCs scandalously broke down on induction.

The Committee observed that the APCs did not meet the operational requirement for the Army, caused Nigeria international embarrassment and deprived her appropriate reimbursement from the United Nations.

4) Circumventing due process:

With respect to contracts awarded directly by the Nigerian Army, the Committee found that many of the contracts were characterised by lack of due process, breach of extant procurement regulations and tainted by corrupt practices.

In this regard, a review of the procurement carried out by Chok Ventures Ltd and Integrated Equipment Services Ltd established that between March 2011 and December 2013, the two companies exclusively procured various types of Toyota and Mitsubishi vehicles worth over N3,000,000,000.00 for the Nigerian Army without any competitive bidding.

Though the Committee found no credible evidence of delivery of the vehicles, the vendors were fully paid based on job completion certificate authenticated by the then Chief of Logistics.

Also, analyses of the various banks accounts of the two companies showed transfers to individuals related to the then Chief of Army Staff.

5) A brave colonel paid the ultimate price for the greed of his superiors:

Furthermore, the post- delivery Technical Inspection Reports revealed that the APCs were unsuitable for the North East operation. However, sequel to the deployment of the APCs in the North East, one was destroyed by RPG fire, killing a Colonel inside.

As at 13 May 2016, only one of the 10 Igirigi APCs deployed to the North East was serviceable.

6) Double jeopardy for troops attached to Operation Boyona:

It was also found out that following a request by the ONSA on 13 May 2013, the Government released N1,340,000,000.00 for OPERATION BOYONA, aimed at dislodging terrorist camps along the borders with Cameroun, Chad and Niger. In August 2013, ONSA requested and got approval for additional N2,000,000,000.00. However, DHQ (Defence Headquarters) and the Services confirmed non-receipt of any additional funds for Operation BOYONA.

7) Fictitious firms as conduit for fraudulent proceeds:

Similarly, in January 2015, the then Honourable Minister of State Foreign Affairs (HMSFA II) requested N7,000,000,000.00 to urgently fund the operation of the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the Lake Chad Basin which was approved and released to ONSA.

However, the Committee could not ascertain the utilization of the funds from ONSA, DHQ and the Services. The returns made by ONSA to the Committee showed that about N1,500,000,000.00 was withdrawn in cash while several disbursements were made to some companies that appeared not to have any relationship with the MNJTF or any operations against Boko Haram.

8) How dollars became orphaned:

The Committee observed that contracts awarded to SEI and its two associated companies, APC Axial Ltd and HK-Sawki Nig Ltd, fell short of established norms. Between May 3, 2014 and March 2015, the ONSA mandated CBN to release various sums totalling $386,954,000.00 to SEI and the two associated companies for ‘procurement of technical equipment’, without tying the money to particular items of procurement.

Thus, the allotment of the fund was left at the discretion of the vendor without input or consultation with ONSA or the Nigerian Army.

9) When NIMASA sub places with the CBN:

The Committee also noted that between September 3, 2014 and 30 April 30, 2015, NIMASA funded accounts of the Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield with various sums totalling N8,542,586,798.58 purportedly to enhance operations of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta.

Analyses of the accounts of the Joint Task Force showed that transfers totalling N6,277,698,885.13 were made from the account. The then JTF Commander could not justify these transfers but confirmed that the sums were changed into dollars and handed over to a private citizen. Additionally, he could not account for the balance of N2,264,887,914.45

10) Looting without limit:

Finally, going by the last flag raised by the committee, it appeared there was no limit the suspected looters couldn’t go, as even accrued tax revenues were not remitted to the appropriate authorities.

The Committee observed breaches of the laws and regulations on payments of With-holding Tax (WHT) and Value Added Tax (VAT). The unremitted WHT from 2007 to 2015 amounted to about N862,962,065.99, $2,093,710.06 and €2,700.00 respectively.

10 Damning Revelations From The Latest Presidential Arms Audit Report

An investigative panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to audit procurement of arms by and for the Nigerian military between 2007 until he assumed office in 2015 submitted another interim report on Thursday.

The Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Nigerian Armed Forces completed the first of its piecemeal reports in November 2015 in which a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, was indicted for allegedly mismanaging over N13 billion budgeted for procurement of arms.

Mr. Buhari ordered immediate arrest of Mr. Dasuki as recommended by the 13-member committee and he had since remained in detention amid disputes about how he should be prosecuted.

In February 2016, the committee, which consists of individuals pooled from mainly military or security background, visited military facilities across the country to carry out a physical examination of military weaponry and equipment and verify if new deliveries were taken, how they were purchased and their quality.

The panel then found over a dozen former military chiefs culpable in fraudulent arms deal within the period under review.

A former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, and Adesola Amosu, a former Chief of Air Staff, were subsequently indicted. They are facing trial in various high courts.

The report submitted to President Buhari on Thursday is third in the series, and it uncovered how ex-political appointees, private individuals and former military chiefs, including two erstwhile Chiefs of Army Staff, were suspected culpable in alleged fraudulent diversion of funds meant for arms procurement.

Azubuike Ihejirika and Kenneth Minimah, who both served under President Goodluck Jonathan, were recommended for further investigation by the committee

Mr. Buhari was, however, criticised for allegedly doctoring the outcome of the latest report.

Critics said the panel indicted a close ally of Mr. Buhari and the current Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, but that the administration compelled the committee to have his name removed before publishing the report.

The government denied the allegations.

As supporters and opponents argued over the impact the alleged protection of Mr. Dambazau would have on Buhari government’s much-avowed zero-tolerance for corruption, PREMIUM TIMES looked at the 10 biggest revelations from the latest arms panel findings.

1) Receiving big to deliver little:

The committee, led by Jon Ode, a retired Air Vice Marshal, found that, “3 contracts with a total value of N5,940,000,000.00 were awarded to DYI Global Services Ltd and Doiyatec Comms Nig Ltd (owned by the same individuals) for the procurement of military hardware including 20 units of K-38 Twin Hull Boats and 6 units of 4 x 4 Ambulances fitted with radios.

“The Committee found that the 2 companies collected N5,103,500,000.00 representing 86% of the total value of the 3 contracts worth N5,940,000,000.00, but only performed to the tune of N2,992,183,705.31.”

2) Inconclusive delivery:

In another instance, 2 contracts were awarded to Baram International Nigeria Limited, amounting to N420,726,799.20 for the procurement of 53 Armoured Vehicles Spare Parts at the cost of N169,916,849.77 and that of Ballistic Vests, Night Vision Binoculars and 3 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles at the cost of N250,809,949.50. Sadly, the contract worth N169,916,849.77 with 90 days completion time is yet to be completed 5 years after.

3) ‘International embarrassment’:

Similarly, between 29 April 2005 and 19 October 2010, the MOD (Ministry of Defence) awarded 2 contracts to Progress Limited for the supply of 42 units of BTR-3U Armoured Personnel Carriers and spare parts for the Nigerian Army.

However, neither the MOD nor the NA could provide the contract agreements to ascertain the cost of the APCs. Although 26 of the APCs were delivered in 2007 and immediately deployed for Peace Keeping Operations in Sudan, the APCs scandalously broke down on induction.

The Committee observed that the APCs did not meet the operational requirement for the Army, caused Nigeria international embarrassment and deprived her appropriate reimbursement from the United Nations.

4) Circumventing due process:

With respect to contracts awarded directly by the Nigerian Army, the Committee found that many of the contracts were characterised by lack of due process, breach of extant procurement regulations and tainted by corrupt practices.

In this regard, a review of the procurement carried out by Chok Ventures Ltd and Integrated Equipment Services Ltd established that between March 2011 and December 2013, the two companies exclusively procured various types of Toyota and Mitsubishi vehicles worth over N3,000,000,000.00 for the Nigerian Army without any competitive bidding.

Though the Committee found no credible evidence of delivery of the vehicles, the vendors were fully paid based on job completion certificate authenticated by the then Chief of Logistics.

Also, analyses of the various banks accounts of the two companies showed transfers to individuals related to the then Chief of Army Staff.

5) A brave colonel paid the ultimate price for the greed of his superiors:

Furthermore, the post- delivery Technical Inspection Reports revealed that the APCs were unsuitable for the North East operation. However, sequel to the deployment of the APCs in the North East, one was destroyed by RPG fire, killing a Colonel inside.

As at 13 May 2016, only one of the 10 Igirigi APCs deployed to the North East was serviceable.

6) Double jeopardy for troops attached to Operation Boyona:

It was also found out that following a request by the ONSA on 13 May 2013, the Government released N1,340,000,000.00 for OPERATION BOYONA, aimed at dislodging terrorist camps along the borders with Cameroun, Chad and Niger. In August 2013, ONSA requested and got approval for additional N2,000,000,000.00. However, DHQ (Defence Headquarters) and the Services confirmed non-receipt of any additional funds for Operation BOYONA.

7) Fictitious firms as conduit for fraudulent proceeds:

Similarly, in January 2015, the then Honourable Minister of State Foreign Affairs (HMSFA II) requested N7,000,000,000.00 to urgently fund the operation of the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the Lake Chad Basin which was approved and released to ONSA.

However, the Committee could not ascertain the utilization of the funds from ONSA, DHQ and the Services. The returns made by ONSA to the Committee showed that about N1,500,000,000.00 was withdrawn in cash while several disbursements were made to some companies that appeared not to have any relationship with the MNJTF or any operations against Boko Haram.

8) How dollars became orphaned:

The Committee observed that contracts awarded to SEI and its two associated companies, APC Axial Ltd and HK-Sawki Nig Ltd, fell short of established norms. Between May 3, 2014 and March 2015, the ONSA mandated CBN to release various sums totalling $386,954,000.00 to SEI and the two associated companies for ‘procurement of technical equipment’, without tying the money to particular items of procurement.

Thus, the allotment of the fund was left at the discretion of the vendor without input or consultation with ONSA or the Nigerian Army.

9) When NIMASA sub places with the CBN:

The Committee also noted that between September 3, 2014 and 30 April 30, 2015, NIMASA funded accounts of the Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield with various sums totalling N8,542,586,798.58 purportedly to enhance operations of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta.

Analyses of the accounts of the Joint Task Force showed that transfers totalling N6,277,698,885.13 were made from the account. The then JTF Commander could not justify these transfers but confirmed that the sums were changed into dollars and handed over to a private citizen. Additionally, he could not account for the balance of N2,264,887,914.45

10) Looting without limit:

Finally, going by the last flag raised by the committee, it appeared there was no limit the suspected looters couldn’t go, as even accrued tax revenues were not remitted to the appropriate authorities.

President Buhari’s 100 Days In Office And The Disappointment To Nigerians

Saturday marked President Muhammadu Buhari’s first 100 days in office. Days leading up to that, the media had covered the topic extensively; ranging from reactions from opposition parties, stakeholders, APC members and Nigerians. Varying reactions came from all the aforementioned and CORRESPONDENT  is reviewing the key ones in this piece.

For starters, the popular micro blog, twitter went agog last week with hashtags by disappointed Nigerians, such as #100WastedDays and #100FailedPromises. This hashtags said a lot about how high the expectations of Nigerians are and how well they feel disappointed.

As issues were being raised about Buhari’s performance in line with his 100 days in office promises, the presidency blatantly denied ever making a 100 days promise to Nigerians. They said the promises Nigerians were referring to did not come from the stables of APC, rather they were from individual supporters of Buhari’s candidacy during the election. As convincing as the presidency’s denial of the 100 days in office promises was, some media outfits still maintained that Buhari actually did make those promises. Their fact finding exercises revealed it.

One outfit in particular reported that at Chatham House in London February, Muhammadu Buhari declared that if elected president of Nigeria, he would prioritise the fight against corruption, as well as insecurity and unemployment. The outfit quoted him as saying, “In the face of dwindling revenues, a good place to start the repositioning ‎of Nigeria’s economy is to swiftly tackle two ills that have ballooned under the present administration: waste and corruption,”.

Despite these criticisms, there were some people who believed Buhari despite the enormous challenges before him has reasons to celebrate his first 100 days in office. Martin Ewi, Senior Researcher, Transnational Threats and International Crime division at ISS was reported by some media outfits to have said that “despite these challenges, there is every reason for Buhari to celebrate his 100 days at the helm of Aso Rock,”. Ewi also noted positive development under Buhari to include the military rescuing the majority of the women and girls that Amnesty International estimated had been kidnapped or abducted by Boko Haram.

Additional towns and villages have been retaken, including the recent liberation of Gamboru Ngala, a strategic town bordering Cameroon.

In thesame vein, so much credit has also come Buhari’s way in terms of stable power. Last week, one columnist explained the experience of his brother who lives outside Nigeria but visited recently. He said “my brother and his family visited Nigeria last month and they stayed for three weeks. He told me that the power supply has changed for the better. He was pleasantly surprised that there are longer days with power compared to the way it was in the past”. There are even more testimonies to how stable power has become under the leadership of Buhari. Some would however argue that, power is stable because it’s the raining season, but this does not change the fact that this is not the first raining season Nigeria is witnessing.

Aircraft in the country might have been flying on Household kerosene, as it has been alleged that it is being sold to airlines as a substitute for Jet A1 fuel, also called aviation turbine kerosene (ATK).
According to oil magnate Femi Otedola, the substitution of HHK for ATK is a rising trend that needs to be arrested.

“This illicit act has been identified as a major factor contributing to the rising cost of kerosene in the country and may also be the cause of some of the air mishaps we have encountered in the country in recent times.

“It is pertinent to state that HHK is sold by the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), an arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at the ex-depot and regulated price of N40.90k with the objective of selling to the average Nigerian at the pump price of N50.00k per litres.

“However, HHK shares some physical and chemical properties with Jet A1 fuel (except for the storage and handling procedures to eliminate contamination in Jet A1 fuel) is being sold by some petroleum marketers to both local and international airlines at the international market price, which may be as high as N140/litre. This huge arbitrage has led to evolution of some mushroom aviation fuel marketers who see this as an opportunity to make big profit,” Otedola said.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) also released a statement in a related move, referring to an alert letter from the European Aviation Safety Agency about the discovery of a contaminant in the fuel metering unit of an aircraft engine.

The NCAA says, is “based on the information provided by the engine manufacturer Rolls Royce to the EASA the contaminant known as Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) may have been introduced during fueling uploads in Lagos Nigeria.

NCAA warns that fuel containing SAP is not considered suitable for aircraft engine operations and likely to damage the engine, with deadly consequences.

The aviation regulator says it is investigating the matter, and has therefore advised airline operators that have experienced service difficulty to submit among other things, trouble shooting report and the aviation fuel supplier.

They are also to submit to NCAA their last audit report on the aviation fuel supplier.

PROTEST LETTER BY RIVERS YOUTHS AND STAKEHOLDERS OVER DRYDOCK

Fear is said to have gripped management of multinational gas corporation, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company, NLNG and her investors over a strongly worded protest letter presented by Rivers state youths and stakeholders over proposed location of its Dry dock.

The letter which content made startling revelations previously unheard of lay overwhelming credence to the fact that NLNG in spite of its sustained denial was actually sponsor of the proposed drydock project in Badagry.
In a nine page letter articulately written and copied to government and strategic agencies in the country by Youth leaders representing various youth groups in Rivers state, stakeholders and other youths of Niger delta under the aegis of Joint Niger Delta Youth Movement who were led by Niger delta activist, Ann Kio Briggs they were resolute over their demand..
Others who registered their presence in the civil protest to NLNG complex in Port Harcourt include; Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Rivers state chapter, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, National Secretary General of Ijaw Youth Council and Leader of Rivers Ijaw Youths, Engr Emmanuel Bristol Alagbariya, Leader Bonny Youth Federation, Barr. Simeon Wilcox among others to express serious disappointment and regret in the non inclusion of host communities who are critical stakeholders of NLNG projects, condemning in the process perceived high level deceit, fabrications and deliberate intention to foist crisis in the region.

Sources in the company who spoke under anonymity said there is rumble and the atmosphere is tense that in spite of alleged attempts by the company to incite other communities and youths against Bonny Island through a recent publication enumerating what Bonny people are benefitting from NLNG youths of Rivers state have remained resolute and undeterred in achieving their joint objective over the dry dock issue and the development is said to be against NLNG plan to forestall further protest by youths. More worrisome for the company is that the protest had gone smoothly without aggression as positions were made without the usually acclaimed violence associated with Niger delta youths.

Part of the demands during the protest is to have the Dry dock located in any of the Niger delta states for the purpose of creating job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths, they also demanded that NLNG should organize a road show in the Niger delta and assure the investors that they will patronize the investors and make available all their vessels to the dry dock facility to be built in the Niger delta. The letter submitted amidst tight security by NLNG neither deterred the youths who matched on within the NLNG premises to deliver the strongly worded letter received by one of NLNG’s key management officers.

Some contentious issues were raised in the letter which reads in parts: “It is not in dispute that you NLNG conceived the idea and sponsored the disputed Dry dock feasibility studies, received, accepted, gave approval to the report and indeed mobilized banks and investors and also organized a road show to actualize and give effect to your desired decision to site the dry dock in Lagos as pre determined”.

“It is necessary here to note that before the feasibility study and road show of Decenber 9th 2014, organized by you there were no foreign or local investors (company or consortium) for the Dry dock, but to our chagrin NLNG had already named the project, Badagry Ship Repair and Marine Engineering, BSME”.

To further give credence to NLNG’s pre determined and lopsided feasibility study, the statement gave references to various reports including one made available by news giant Reuters on Friday June 19th 2015 which was also hoisted on NLNG website captioned ‘NLNG EYES $1.5 BILLION NAIRA DEBUT SHIPYARD IN NIGERIA’. The first paragraph aptly captured that ‘Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company (NLNG) is sponsoring the construction of the first major ship yard in Africa’s biggest economy at the cost of $1.5 billion, in its attempt to turn the country into a hub for maritime operations on the continent”. Reuters went further to quote NLNG spokesman, Tony Okonedo corroborating statements that indicate that they are actually sponsoring the dry dock project.

Furthermore statement to bolster claims by the youth group referenced publications and strategic quotes by NLNG management on Nations Newspaper, Guardian Newspaper, Sun newspaper among others.
The letter in part countered strongly and referred to as unsubstantiated,. NLNG spokesman’s claim that technical grounds like, Natural water depth; Proximity to an international airport and Proximity to an active offshore and onshore West Africa oil and gas hub were practicable parameters used to decide on siting the Dry dock in Badagry

Countering the claims the Joint Niger Delta Youth Movement stated in its letter that it is yet to come to terms on why Badagry which natural water depth of 11-12 meters was chosen ahead of Bonny island with natural water depth of 14.30 meters and the Onne/Ikpokiri which has about 15.2 meters of natural water depth.
On proximity to airport, it states that the distance between Lagos International airport and Badagry is about 68 kilometers while from Port Harcourt international airport to Onne port is about 40 kilometers, even as Bonny Island has the advantage of a mini air strip.

Dissecting the issue of proximity to an active offshore and onshore West Africa oil and gas hub, it states “Niger delta is the most active offshore and onshore oil and gas hub in Nigeria and indeed in the whole of West Africa. Hear this: It is a global established known and accepted empirical fact that only the management of NLNG Bonny and its hired agents the Royal Haskoning DHV are disputing this very obvious fact”.

The protest organized in the most civil and intellectual manner attracted the admiration of security operatives. There was staked consensus among, Ann Kio Briggs, Sukubo Sara Igbe, Bristol Alagbariya and Wilcox and others that NLNG’s hidden but now open agenda can never be allowed to see the light of the day, they assert that the decision will if allowed to fly will be detrimental not just to the present generation of youths in the Niger delta, but to those yet unborn. While they wait on NLNG to reply the letter they are strongly maintaining a capital NO stance to siting the Drydock in Badagry.

Prohibition Of Same-sex Marriage Not Human Rights Violation – NBA

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Friday said that prohibition of same sex marriage, criminalisation of adultery and incest did not amount to violation of any person’s fundamental human rights.

President of the Association, Mr Augustine Alegeh, said this in Abuja at a news conference.

Alegeh, who was briefing newsmen on recommendations of the 55th Annual General Conference of the association, said that although most western countries had accepted these practices, they were unacceptable to Africa.

“The statistics that came out at this session were very revealing. It showed that most of the western world had adopted this position.

“But so far, besides South Africa, Africa is holding firm because most of our beliefs are based on our traditions and also on our religious beliefs,’’ Alegeh said.

He said the conference agreed that prohibition of same-sex marriage in Nigeria did not violate the right of any person and urged government to continue to hold onto this stand.

On the issue of arbitration, the president said that taking debtors to native doctors was not arbitration.

“Taking someone who owes you money to a native doctor is not arbitration. We heard such a view during the conference.

“That if someone denies that he does not owe you money or you have a land dispute, you take him to go and swear an oath, this is not an alternative dispute resolution.

“Even in traditional African societies, they had chiefs and other means that such cases were resolved and we will not encourage any person to explore such means.

“We observed that the Arbitration Act currently in operation in the country is obsolete and needs to be modified.”

He advised other states to look at the newly passed Lagos State Arbitration Act and use it as a model of what arbitration should look like.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, had signed the Same-Sex Prohibition Act in 2014 making it a law.

The overwhelming majority of Nigerians supported the legislation although a cross section had kicked against it.

Some western countries had even threatened to withdraw aid from Nigeria.

The bill prescribes a 14 year jail term for offenders.

This is no time to go back to the military mafia and go back to our vomit”, he was quoted in the viral reports as saying.

But in a piece titled, ‘Identity Thieves and the 2015 Election Peace Accord’, Soyinka warned those spreading the rumour of his purported endorsement of politicians “to be less gullible, and avoid becoming cheap conduits for the deception industry”.

He said, “Let me thus seize the occasion of the Abuja accord to state categorically that I have never made a statement endorsing any presidential or governorship contestant. All such attributions are fabrications by faceless, often self-appointed agents of deception, and should be publicly pilloried.

“Whenever I choose to declare support for a candidate – as is my electoral right – I shall ensure that I deploy a medium that places my authorship beyond dispute”.

Reacting to the peace pact now known as the ‘Abuja Accord’ signed by President Jonathan and Buhari on Wednesday to ensure violence-free polls, Soyinka said he was impressed with the outcome of the meeting.

He described the pact as a “positive step in the direction of democracy”, and commended the efforts of a former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan and a former Secretary-General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, in ensuring the success of the accord.

According to the Nobel Laureate, if the peace pact is adhered to with sincerity, it would ensure a wholesome space for future elections, and avert further violence.

“It might even come close to what the democratic ideal should be, as canvassed by others, including Governor Fashola a few years ago”, Soyinka added.

He, however, said he was disappointed that the communiqué issued after the peace meeting did not make mention of victims of political violence.

A professor of Law and human rights activist, Prof. Itse Sagay, SAN, Monday, described the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) decision in postponing the elections billed for February 14 and 28 as a threat to Nigeria’s democratic existence.

“Well, it is a very big disappointment because it is a threat to our democratic existence.

“When a group of people who feel that the election is not likely to favour them can put pressure on the constitutional established electoral process, what it means is that you are manipulating the whole electoral process, therefore manipulating democracy, and the end result will not be very palatable for our democratic system.

“One major reason for this unfortunate turn of events is that many elders like you have refused 2 voluntarily handover d baton 2 d next generation. Life should be a relay race where one runs his race and hands over 2 d next. In Nigeria many elders like you have run their races and are still holding on tenaciously 2 d baton.But Sir, I have an important question here 4 you. The question is simple, MUST YOU SERVE NIGERIA AS A PRESIDENT ONLY? IS THERE NO OTHER CAPACITY YOU CAN SERVE US EXCEPT D PRESIDENCY? It is very erroneous 2 imagine that you can only serve Nigeria only in one capacity. During d regime of late General Sani Abacha, you accepted d appointment 2 serve as d Chairman of d then Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF). D general opinion was that you served faithfully in this capacity.
“Well done Sir! But you never asked Abacha 2 vacate office 4 you as your former subordinate in d army. Never! In fact that would have been a dangerous move, if not suicidal. Rather you served faithfully under your former junior in d army. Sir, imagine if you take on another job like d Chairman of EFCC or ICPC or NDLEA. Nigerians actually need you 2 serve in one of these capacities much more than they need you in d Presidency.
“Mere mentioning your name as Chairman of EFCC would drive many corrupt men underground. But you wouldn’t . Either d Presidency or nothing. When are you going 2 handover 2 d next person? It is either you do it voluntarily or risk disgrace at d polls. God bless you sir.
